1. Product description
Reducers in fast, standard and slow grades matched to booth temperature and to the hardener in use, together with the consumables that surround the repair: degreasers and panel wipes, anti-silicone additive for fish-eye, flexibilising additive for plastic parts, and dry guide coat for sanding control. Thinner grade controls atomisation, flow-out and flash-off, and on metallics it also controls how the flake settles, which is why a colour sprayed with the wrong reducer lands lighter or darker than the spray-out card.
2. Features
- Fast, standard and slow reducer grades
- Reducer grade controls atomisation, flow-out, flash-off and metallic flake settling
- Degreasers and panel wipes for each preparation step
- Flexibilising additive for plastic parts and anti-silicone additive for fish-eye
- Dry guide coat for sanding control on surfacer and filler
3. Recommended uses
Reduction of the Arcrefin sealer, surfacer, solventborne basecoat and clearcoats to spray viscosity, and the cleaning, flexibilising, defect control and sanding control steps of a bodyshop repair.
Substrates. Not applied as a coating. Degreasers and panel wipes are used on metal, filler, aged paint and plastic before each coating step; dry guide coat is used over surfacer and filler.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent reducers in fast, standard and slow grades, with shop ancillaries | Formulation |
| Reducer grades | Fast, standard and slow, matched to booth temperature and hardener grade | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Function of reducer grade | Controls atomisation, flow-out and flash-off; on metallics it also controls flake settling and so the lightness of the colour | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Application viscosity of reduced material at 20 °C | 16 to 22 s, 4 mm flow cup, depending on grade and gun setup | Customer or supplier protocol (4 mm flow cup) |
| Ancillaries | Degreasers and panel wipes, anti-silicone additive, flexibilising additive and dry guide coat | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Flexibilising additive addition | At the rate on the data sheet, in primer, sealer and clearcoat for flexible plastic parts | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Anti-silicone additive addition | At the stated low rate, only where fish-eye has occurred | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Reducer selection | Match the reducer grade to the hardener grade and to booth temperature |
| Colour consistency | Keep the same reducer grade between the spray-out card and the panel |
| Degreasing | Degrease metal, filler, aged paint and plastic before sanding and again after sanding, before the first coat on each prepared surface; do not solvent wipe between wet-on-wet coats or over freshly applied Arcrefin PR 110 |
| Flexible parts | Add flexibilising additive to primer, sealer and clearcoat at the rate on the data sheet |
| Fish-eye | Add anti-silicone additive at the stated low rate, only where fish-eye has occurred |
| Sanding control | Dust dry guide coat over cured surfacer or filler before sanding |
Process. Match the reducer grade to the hardener grade and to booth temperature, and keep the same grade between the spray-out card and the panel. Add flexibilising additive to primer, sealer and clearcoat for flexible plastic parts at the rate on the data sheet. Add anti-silicone additive only at the stated low rate and only where fish-eye has occurred. Dust dry guide coat over cured surfacer before sanding.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
