Arcrefin PR 110 Plastic Adhesion Promoter

A single-component, very low build adhesion promoter applied as a light mist coat to untreated polyolefin mouldings, so that primer, sealer or basecoat can key to a low surface energy plastic. It adds negligible film build and no filling, and it is not a primer.

1. Product description

A single-component, very low build promoter sprayed as a light mist coat onto untreated polyolefin mouldings before any primer or basecoat. It is not a primer: it adds negligible film build and no filling, and its only job is to give a surface the following coats can key into, on a plastic whose low surface energy ordinary refinish materials will not hold on to. The overcoat window is short, so the panel is built up in the same booth session rather than left overnight.

2. Features

  • Single component, used without hardener
  • Very low build: 3 to 8 µm dry in one light coat
  • Air-dries; no bake before overcoating
  • Short overcoat window, so the part is built up in the same booth session
  • Needed only on untreated polyolefins; polar and previously coated plastics are primed directly

3. Recommended uses

Untreated polypropylene, TPO and EPDM-modified polypropylene bumper covers, trim mouldings and other low surface energy polyolefin parts in bodyshop repair. It is not required on polyamide, PC/ABS or PPO blends, or on plastic parts that already carry a sound coating.

Substrates. Untreated polypropylene, TPO and EPDM-modified polypropylene bumper and trim mouldings, and other low surface energy polyolefin parts. Polar plastics such as polyamide, PC/ABS and PPO blends, and previously coated plastic parts, are cleaned, abraded and primed directly and do not need the promoter.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Surface preparationDegrease, abrade, degrease again and allow the part to dry fully
MethodConventional or HVLP spray gun, 1.3 to 1.4 mm fluid tip, one light mist coat
Applied film3 to 8 µm dry in one coat
Flash-off10 to 15 min at 20 °C; air-dry only, no bake
Next coatArcrefin PS 220 sealer or Arcrefin PS 450 surfacer, with flexibilising additive on flexible parts, inside the overcoat window stated on the label; basecoat follows over the sealer or surfacer
Flexible partsAdd Arcrefin AN 340 flexibilising additive to the following primer, sealer and clearcoat at the rate on the data sheet

Process. Degrease, abrade, degrease again and dry. Apply one light coat by conventional or HVLP gun with a 1.3 to 1.4 mm tip at 3 to 8 µm dry. Flash 10 to 15 min at 20 °C and overcoat with primer, sealer or basecoat inside the stated window; air-dry only, no bake required.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
