1. Product description
A blending clear and matched fade-out solvent used at the boundary of a spot repair, so the new film thins out into the adjacent panel instead of ending at a cut line. The blending clear is a two-component material: it is mixed with the Arcrefin AN 220 hardener grade in use on the job and then reduced with the fade-out reducer. It carries the repair out to a natural break such as a swage line or panel edge, and the fade-out solvent melts the overspray zone back to gloss. The test of the work is visual: the boundary has to disappear under booth light, again in daylight, and at the shallow angle along the panel where a blend shows first.
2. Features
- Blending clear mixed with the Arcrefin AN 220 grade in use on the job
- Fade-out solvent melts the overspray zone back to gloss
- Carries the repair to a natural break such as a swage line or panel edge
- Flashed and baked with the clearcoat cycle
- Judged under booth light, in daylight and at a shallow viewing angle
3. Recommended uses
Spot and small-area repairs where a cut-in edge would show at a shallow viewing angle, and difficult metallic colours where a blend into the adjacent panel conceals a close but imperfect match.
Substrates. Sound aged OEM or refinish clearcoat on the adjacent panel, prepared with fine abrasive or a compound pad, together with the freshly cleared repair area.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Two-component blending clear crosslinked with polyisocyanate hardener, with a matched fade-out solvent | Formulation |
| Components | Blending clear, cured with Arcrefin AN 220 and reduced with the fade-out reducer, plus a matched fade-out solvent | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Pot life of mixed blending clear at 20 °C | 40 to 90 min by hardener grade, shortening to roughly half at 30 °C | ISO 9514 |
| Cure | With the clearcoat cycle: 20 to 40 min at 60 °C metal temperature after flash-off, by grade, followed by cool-down | ISO 9117-1 (through-dry state) |
| Blend boundary | Not visible under booth light, in daylight or at a shallow angle along the panel | Visual |
| Colour difference against the target panel at the face angle | Delta E*ab below 1.0 for an accepted blended repair | ASTM D2244 |
| Multi-angle colour of metallic blends (flop) | Agreed tolerance held at 15, 45 and 110 degrees aspecular | ASTM E2194 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Adjacent panel preparation | Prepare the sound aged clearcoat with fine abrasive or a compound pad out to the blend area |
| Basecoat | Reduce the basecoat and step it out beyond the repair so no colour edge remains |
| Mixing | Mix the blending clear with the Arcrefin AN 220 grade in use on the job, then reduce with the fade-out reducer |
| Application | Apply over the repair and out into the prepared area, finishing at a natural break such as a swage line or panel edge |
| Fade-out | Immediately mist the fade-out solvent into the overspray zone at low pressure from a longer gun distance |
| Cure | Flash and bake with the clearcoat cycle |
| Finishing | Polish the faded zone after cool-down |
Process. Reduce the basecoat and step it out beyond the repair so no colour edge remains. Mix the blending clear with the AN 220 hardener grade in use and reduce it, apply it over the repair and out into the prepared area, then immediately mist the fade-out solvent into the overspray zone at low pressure from a longer distance. Flash and bake with the clearcoat cycle, then polish the faded zone after cool-down.
6. Storage and handling
Store blending clear and fade-out solvent in their original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight and away from heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
