Arcrefin AN 220 Polyisocyanate Hardener Range
Polyisocyanate hardeners in fast, standard and slow grades, selected by booth temperature and job size. The grade sets pot life, flow time and through-cure of the Arcrefin polyisocyanate-cured sealer, surfacer, clearcoats and blending clear.

1. Product description
Polyisocyanate hardeners in fast, standard and slow grades, selected by booth temperature and by the size of the job rather than by preference. The grade sets pot life, the point at which the film stops flowing and the through-cure time, so a fast grade on a warm day will set a large panel before it has levelled and a slow grade on a cold morning will still be soft when the booth cycle ends. Grades are matched to a specific clearcoat, sealer or surfacer and its mixing ratio, and are not interchanged without checking the technical data sheet.
2. Features
- Fast, standard and slow grades
- Grade selected by booth temperature and job size
- Crosslinker for Arcrefin PS 220, PS 450, CC 220, CC 450 and BL 150
- Not used with Arcrefin PR 230, which takes its own amine-functional hardener
- Reacts with atmospheric moisture, so containers are kept closed
3. Recommended uses
Hardener component for the two-component sealer, surfacer, clearcoats and blending clear in the Arcrefin refinish range, matched to the base product and its mixing ratio.
Substrates. Not applied to a substrate. Supplied as the crosslinker component for Arcrefin PS 220, PS 450, CC 220, CC 450 and the Arcrefin BL 150 blending clear. Arcrefin PR 230 is an epoxy and takes the amine-functional hardener supplied with that primer, not this range.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Polyisocyanate hardener | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear liquid | Visual |
| Grades | Fast, standard and slow | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Grade selection by booth temperature | Fast below roughly 18 °C, standard for 18 to 28 °C, slow above roughly 28 °C or for large-area work | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Mixing ratio | By volume, as printed on the base product data sheet | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Pot life of mixed material at 20 °C | 40 to 90 min, shortening to roughly half at 30 °C | ISO 9514 |
| Low-bake cure of mixed material | 20 to 40 min at 60 °C metal temperature after flash-off, by base product and grade | ISO 9117-1 (through-dry state) |
| Moisture sensitivity | Reacts with atmospheric moisture; containers kept closed | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Grade selection | Fast below roughly 18 °C, standard for 18 to 28 °C, slow above roughly 28 °C or for large-area work |
| Compatibility | Arcrefin PS 220, PS 450, CC 220, CC 450 and BL 150; not Arcrefin PR 230 |
| Mixing | By volume at the ratio on the base product data sheet, using a graduated mixing stick or the shop scale |
| Quantity | Mix only what the panel in hand needs; pot life is 40 to 90 min at 20 °C and about half that at 30 °C |
| Reducer | Match the Arcrefin AN 340 reducer grade to the hardener grade |
| Containers | Reclose immediately after use |
Process. Select fast below roughly 18 °C, standard for 18 to 28 °C and slow above roughly 28 °C or for large-area work. Mix by volume at the ratio printed on the base product data sheet, using a graduated mixing stick or the shop scale. Pot life is typically 40 to 90 min at 20 °C and about half that at 30 °C, so mix only what the panel in hand needs. Keep containers closed: the hardener reacts with atmospheric moisture.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry place, protected from moisture, out of direct sunlight and away from heat, and reclose part-used containers immediately. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line. Arctic Materials may revise this sheet without notice. Issue 2026.09.
