Arcglide HS / LS
High-slip and low-slip coatings that take surface friction deliberately to one end of the working range where the standard slip level does not suit the machine or the pack. High-slip lets the web release over forming parts and lets cartons slide into collation; low-slip raises friction so filled bags and stacked packs hold position.

1. Product description
High-slip and low-slip coatings that take surface friction deliberately to one end of the working range where the standard slip level does not suit the machine or the pack. High-slip lets the web release over forming parts and lets cartons slide into collation; low-slip raises friction so filled bags and stacked packs hold position.
2. Features
- HS lowers friction for release over formers, collars, plough folders and chutes
- LS raises friction so filled bags hold on a pallet and stacked packs do not creep
- LS suits friction-fed magazines and hoppers that pick single blanks or sheets
- HS is not a substitute for a release or heat-resistant coating at hot sealing jaws
- Verified on the finished print or laminate, not on the coating alone
3. Recommended uses
High-slip for webs running over formers, collars and chutes and for cartons fed into case packer collation. Low-slip for filled bags on pallets, stacked retail packs in transit and blanks fed from friction-fed magazines and hoppers.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Clear slip-control coating, solvent-borne or water-based | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear to slightly hazy liquid, drying to a clear film | visual |
| Carrier | Organic solvent blend or water, stated for the grade supplied and matched to the ink system | formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 10 to 30 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Supply viscosity, ISO flow cup 3 mm at 23 degrees Celsius | 50 to 100 s as supplied | ISO 2431 |
| Density at 23 degrees Celsius | 0.90 to 1.10 g/cm3, depending on carrier | ISO 2811-1 |
| Coefficient of friction, static and kinetic | HS below and LS above the Arcglide STD window; target range agreed with the converter for the stated couple and confirmed on the finished print or laminate, not published as a single catalogue value | ASTM D1894 on film; on paper and board, TAPPI T 815 for the static value and customer or supplier protocol for the kinetic value |
| Friction after ageing | Checked on retained samples after the agreed storage time and conditioning | ASTM D1894 on film; on paper and board, TAPPI T 815 for the static value and customer or supplier protocol for the kinetic value |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Gravure coating cylinder for full-web coating at consistent weight, or flexo coating station |
| Surface preparation | Ink and varnish fully dried; keep glue flaps, seal panels and areas to be laminated or overprinted uncoated |
| Dilution | Supplied at or near application strength; reduce only with the diluent specified by Arctic for the grade, check flow time to ISO 2431 at fixed intervals recorded against temperature, and confirm any correction against a measured coat weight |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.5 to 2.0 g/m2, held even across the web |
| Drying | Dryer air typically 50 to 80 degrees Celsius, limited by the heat tolerance of the substrate, set so the web leaves dry, free of retained solvent and cool at the rewind; water-based grades need more drying energy and dwell than solvent-borne grades at the same coat weight |
| Reel handling | Controlled wind tension and cooled reels; over-slipped webs can telescope or wind unevenly, so reel stability is checked alongside friction |
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original containers, kept closed, in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight and sources of heat, within the temperature range given on the label, and protect water-based grades from frost. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
