Arcwood EX 460 High-Build Flexible Exterior Topcoat

A high-build exterior topcoat containing ultraviolet absorbers and hindered amine light stabilisers, formulated to stay elastic through seasonal swelling and shrinkage instead of cracking at the joints. Its controlled vapour transmission lets moisture that enters the timber leave again rather than lifting the film.

1. Product description

A high-build exterior topcoat containing ultraviolet absorbers and hindered amine light stabilisers, formulated to stay elastic so that it follows seasonal swelling and shrinkage instead of cracking at the joints. It keeps a controlled vapour transmission rate, so moisture that enters the timber can leave again rather than lifting the film. It is the top of the EX family on film build, weathering and elasticity, and is specified over Arcwood EX 210 rather than direct to bare timber.

2. Features

  • Stays elastic through seasonal timber movement
  • Contains UV absorbers and hindered amine light stabilisers
  • Microporous system, 15 to 150 g/m2 per day, medium permeability class
  • Builds 40 to 60 microns dry per coat, 100 to 150 microns as a complete system
  • Translucent over show timber or opaque over primed joinery

3. Recommended uses

Topcoat for basecoated exterior windows, doors, screens and cladding, applied over Arcwood EX 210 and not direct to bare timber.

Substrates. Basecoated exterior joinery, windows, doors, screens and cladding, translucent over show timber or opaque over primed joinery.

Process. Spray, brush or flow coat 2 coats at 40 to 60 microns dry per coat, giving a complete system of 100 to 150 microns dry with the basecoat. Recoat after 6 to 8 hours at 30 degrees C. Do not apply below 10 degrees C, above 80 per cent relative humidity, or when the timber surface is less than 3 degrees C above the dew point.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, dry, covered area, out of direct sunlight and protected from frost and heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
