Arcwood WB 130 Water-Based Stain and Basecoat
A water-borne pigment and dye stain for spray, wipe or dip application, formulated with grain-raising control so the surface can be de-nibbed with a single light sand rather than a full re-cut. It gives an even colour lay-down across large veneered faces, where a solvent stain would flash off unevenly.

1. Product description
A water-borne pigment and dye stain for spray, wipe or dip application, formulated with grain-raising control so the surface can be de-nibbed with a single light sand rather than a full re-cut. It gives the even colour lay-down needed on veneered panel where a solvent stain would flash off unevenly across a large face. It is the colouring member of the WB family and is overcoated by water-based, UV or two-component polyurethane systems.
2. Features
- Spray, wipe or dip application
- Grain-raising control: de-nib with one light sand at 320 grit
- Even colour lay-down across large veneered faces
- Low film build of roughly 5 to 10 microns dry
- Overcoated by water-based, UV or two-component polyurethane systems
3. Recommended uses
Colouring of solid timber, sliced veneer, MDF faces and edges and board components before sealing, where an even colour lay-down is needed across large veneered faces.
Substrates. Solid timber, sliced veneer, MDF faces and edges, board components requiring uniform colour before sealing.

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Spray, wipe or dip |
| Surface preparation | Sand to 180 to 240 grit with the grain and remove all dust with clean compressed air or a tack cloth |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use. Any reduction is made only as instructed for the grade, because it changes colour strength. |
| Application weight | 60 to 100 g/m2 wet by spray, leaving roughly 5 to 10 microns dry |
| Drying | Flash off 15 to 20 minutes; force dry at 30 to 40 degrees C where available |
| De-nibbing | One light sand with 320 grit |
| Next step | Seal within 24 hours with a water-based, UV or two-component polyurethane system, for example Arcwood WB 320 |
Process. Spray, wipe or dip. Sprayed application is 60 to 100 g/m2 wet, leaving roughly 5 to 10 microns dry. Flash off 15 to 20 minutes, force dry at 30 to 40 degrees C where available, de-nib with 320 grit and seal within 24 hours.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original, tightly closed container in a cool, covered area, protected from frost and direct sunlight. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
