Arcdura LC 620 Low-Cure Metal Powder
Low-cure thermosetting powder for metal parts that cannot see a conventional oven schedule, curing at 130 to 150 degrees C object temperature. The trade against a standard grade is a shorter storage life and a narrower gap between full cure and overbake.

1. Product description
A low-cure thermoset for metal parts that cannot see a conventional oven schedule: assemblies carrying seals, bearings, electronics or plated components, and heavy castings and thick sections where holding the whole mass at 180 to 200 degrees C is slow and costly. The trade against a standard grade is a shorter storage life and a narrower gap between full cure and overbake, so cool storage and a profiled oven are conditions of use, not recommendations.
2. Features
- Cures at 130 to 150 degrees C object temperature
- For assemblies carrying seals, bearings, electronics or plated components
- Suits heavy castings and thick sections slow to bring to conventional cure heat
- Cool storage and a profiled oven are conditions of use
3. Recommended uses
Assemblies carrying seals, bearings, electronics or plated components, and heavy castings and thick sections, on steel, zinc-coated steel, aluminium and mixed-material assemblies.
Substrates. Pretreated mild steel, zinc-coated steel, aluminium, heavy castings, mixed-material assemblies.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Low-cure thermosetting powder, solvent-free | Formulation |
| Appearance and finish | Fine, free-flowing powder; colour and gloss to order | Visual, against the agreed colour standard |
| Particle size distribution, d50 | 30 to 45 microns | ISO 8130-13, laser diffraction |
| Specific gravity | 1.2 to 1.8 g/cm3, set by pigment and filler loading | ISO 8130-2 or ISO 8130-3 |
| Gel time | Quoted at 150 degrees C, the top of the grade's cure window, rather than at 180 degrees C; figure stated on the Certificate of Analysis | ISO 8130-6 |
| Storage stability, accelerated caking | Free flowing after the stated period at the lower storage temperature quoted for low-cure grades | ISO 8130-8 |
| Dry film thickness | 60 to 90 microns | ISO 2178 magnetic method on steel, ISO 2360 eddy current on aluminium |
| Specular gloss | 5 to 95 gloss units at 60 degrees, to order; matt finishes read at 85 degrees and high gloss at 20 degrees | ISO 2813 |
| Adhesion | Cross-cut classification 0, no detachment, at 60 to 90 microns | ISO 2409 |
| Cupping and conical mandrel bend | 5 mm cupping and above without cracking; mandrel bend without cracking at the stated build | ISO 1520 and ISO 6860 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Electrostatic corona or tribostatic spray |
| Surface preparation | Pretreated mild steel, zinc-coated steel, aluminium, heavy castings or mixed-material assemblies, clean and dry |
| Dilution or thinner | None; applied as supplied, solvent-free |
| Dry film thickness | 60 to 90 microns, checked to ISO 2178 on steel and ISO 2360 on aluminium |
| Cure schedule | 10 to 20 min at 130 to 150 degrees C object temperature |
| Oven control | Profile the oven with a data-logging profiler: the gap between full cure and overbake is narrower than for a standard grade |
| Powder handling | Store below the stated maximum temperature and use in date order |
Process. Electrostatic corona or tribostatic spray, 60 to 90 microns dry film. Typical cure 10 to 20 minutes at 130 to 150 degrees C object temperature. Store below the stated maximum and use in date order.
6. Storage and handling
Cool storage below the maximum temperature stated on the label is a condition of use: keep the powder sealed in its original packaging, away from heat sources, and use stock in date order. Shelf life, shorter than for conventional grades, is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
