Arcdura LC 660 MDF and Board Powder
Low-cure powder for medium density fibreboard and other wood-based board, applied to a warmed panel whose residual moisture makes the surface conductive enough to hold charged powder. It flows over machined edges and profiles and crosslinks at a board-safe temperature, giving a continuous film over face, profile and edge in one operation.

1. Product description
Formulated for medium density fibreboard and other wood-based board, where the panel is warmed first so its own residual moisture makes the surface conductive enough to hold charged powder. It melts, flows over machined edges and profiles, and crosslinks at a board-safe temperature, giving a continuous film over face, profile and edge in one operation, with no edge banding or lipping, on cabinet doors, shopfitting, furniture fronts and retail display. Board specification governs the result as much as the powder: density, moisture content and edge machining have to be consistent or the film will show it.
2. Features
- Continuous film over face, profile and edge, with no edge banding or lipping
- Fuses and cures at 120 to 140 degrees C object temperature
- Convection, infrared or combined cure; ultraviolet-cured route where the line is equipped
- 80 to 120 microns dry film
- Board density, moisture content and edge machining must be consistent
3. Recommended uses
Cabinet doors, shopfitting, furniture fronts and retail display on medium density fibreboard and comparable board.
Substrates. Medium density fibreboard and comparable wood-based board, with routed edges and profiles sanded and de-dusted.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Low-cure thermosetting powder for wood-based board, thermal or ultraviolet crosslinking route, solvent-free | Formulation |
| Appearance and finish | Fine, free-flowing powder; colour and gloss to order | Visual, against the agreed colour standard |
| Particle size distribution, d50 | 30 to 45 microns | ISO 8130-13, laser diffraction |
| Specific gravity | 1.2 to 1.8 g/cm3, set by pigment and filler loading | ISO 8130-2 or ISO 8130-3 |
| Gel time | Quoted at 150 degrees C for thermal-cure grades; figure stated on the Certificate of Analysis | ISO 8130-6 |
| Storage stability, accelerated caking | Free flowing after the stated period at the lower storage temperature quoted for low-cure grades | ISO 8130-8 |
| Dry film thickness | 80 to 120 microns on board | ISO 2178 on a steel witness panel run with the load, or by cross-section to ISO 2808 |
| Specular gloss | 5 to 95 gloss units at 60 degrees, to order; matt finishes read at 85 degrees and high gloss at 20 degrees | ISO 2813 |
| Adhesion | Cross-cut on the board supplied, with the cut spacing ISO 2409 sets for soft substrates and the film thickness, 2 mm at 80 to 120 microns; acceptance to customer or supplier protocol | ISO 2409 |
| Edge coverage | Continuous film over face, profile and machined edge | Visual inspection of routed edges and profiles |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Board preparation | Medium density fibreboard or comparable board of consistent density and moisture content, with routed edges and profiles sanded and de-dusted |
| Board preheat | Panel warmed before spraying so its residual moisture makes the surface conductive enough to hold charged powder |
| Application method | Electrostatic spray |
| Dry film thickness | 80 to 120 microns; magnetic and eddy current gauges do not read on board, so build is checked on a metal witness panel run with the load |
| Fuse and cure | 120 to 140 degrees C object temperature by convection, infrared or a combination, with time at temperature set by board and heating method and confirmed by profiling |
| Ultraviolet route | Melt by heat, then crosslink under ultraviolet lamps, where the line is equipped for it |
Process. Board preheat, electrostatic spray at 80 to 120 microns, then fuse and cure at 120 to 140 degrees C object temperature by convection, infrared or a combination. An ultraviolet-cured route, melting by heat and crosslinking under lamps, is available where the line is equipped for it. Film build is checked on a metal witness panel run with the load, because magnetic and eddy current gauges do not read on board.
6. Storage and handling
Cool storage below the maximum temperature stated on the label is a condition of use: keep the powder sealed in its original packaging, away from heat sources, and use stock in date order. Shelf life, shorter than for conventional grades, is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
