Arcdura TP 720 Fluidised Bed Thermoplastic Powder
Non-crosslinking thermoplastic powder for dip coating in an air-fluidised bed, supplied in polyethylene, polyamide or thermoplastic polyester chemistry to suit the service. The powder melts on the preheated part and the film sets as the part cools, giving a thick, tough, flexible and impact-resistant coating.

1. Product description
Non-crosslinking powder for dip coating in an air-fluidised bed, supplied in polyethylene, polyamide or thermoplastic polyester chemistry against the service the part sees. The preheated part is dipped, the powder melts on contact and the film sets as the part cools, so the coating is fused on the part’s own retained heat and there is no crosslinking cure, only a short post-heat to flow the surface out. Film build is set by part temperature and dwell in the bed, and the result is thick, tough, flexible and impact resistant rather than hard: wire goods, weldmesh, fan guards, fence panels, handrails, street furniture, pipework and fittings.
2. Features
- Polyethylene, polyamide or thermoplastic polyester chemistry
- 250 to 600 microns in one dip, higher with a second dip while the part is hot
- No crosslinking cure; short post-heat to flow the surface out
- Thick, tough, flexible and impact-resistant film
- Adhesion settled per grade and per substrate
3. Recommended uses
Wire goods, weldmesh, fan guards, fence panels, handrails, street furniture, pipework and fittings.
Substrates. Blast-cleaned steel, wire and tube, usually with a primer or adhesion promoter. Some chemistries are formulated to go on without one, so adhesion is settled per grade and per substrate.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Thermoplastic powder in polyethylene, polyamide or thermoplastic polyester, non-crosslinking, solvent-free | Formulation |
| Appearance | Free-flowing powder for fluidised bed use, colour to order | Visual, against the agreed colour standard |
| Particle size distribution, d50 | 100 to 200 microns | ISO 8130-13, laser diffraction |
| Film formation | Melts on the preheated part and sets on cooling; no crosslinking | Not applicable |
| Fluidisation | Fluidises evenly in an air-fluidised bed | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Dry film thickness | 250 to 600 microns in one dip | ISO 2178 magnetic method on steel |
| Adhesion | Pull-off 5 MPa and above, depending on chemistry and primer; cross-cut is outside its scope at this build. On polyethylene, where the dolly adhesive will not bond reliably, adhesion is assessed to customer or supplier protocol | ISO 4624; customer or supplier protocol for polyethylene |
| Conical mandrel bend | No cracking at the stated build | ISO 6860 |
| Neutral salt spray on prepared steel | 500 to 1000 h, rated for rusting and blistering; preparation and primer govern the result | ISO 9227, rated to ISO 4628-2 for blistering and ISO 4628-3 for rusting |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Part preheat, dip into an air-fluidised bed, withdraw and post-heat to flow out |
| Surface preparation | Blast-cleaned steel, wire or tube, usually with a primer or adhesion promoter; some chemistries go on without one, so adhesion is settled per grade and per substrate |
| Part temperature and dwell | Set against part mass and target build; film build is governed by part temperature and dwell time in the bed |
| Dilution or thinner | None; applied as supplied, solvent-free |
| Dry film thickness | 250 to 600 microns in one dip; higher with a second dip while the part is still hot |
| Post-heat | Short post-heat to flow the surface out; no crosslinking cure pass |
| Inspection | Adhesion by pull-off to ISO 4624, not by cross-cut; on polyethylene to customer or supplier protocol |
Process. Part preheat, dip into a fluidised bed, withdraw and post-heat to flow out. 250 to 600 microns in one dip, higher with a second dip while the part is still hot. No crosslinking cure pass. Adhesion at this build is assessed by pull-off, not by cross-cut.
6. Storage and handling
Store sealed in the original packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and keep containers closed between uses so the powder does not pick up moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
