Arcmotive WH 560 Wheel Clearcoat

A high-build clearcoat applied over Arcmotive WH 510 to complete the wheel system, giving the finished gloss and the barrier against brake dust, alkaline wheel cleaner, road salt and de-icing fluid. Film build and hardness are balanced against stone chip performance, which stays with the flexible WH 510 layer beneath it.

1. Product description

A high-build clearcoat applied over WH 510 to complete the wheel system, giving the finished gloss and the barrier against brake dust, alkaline wheel cleaner, road salt and de-icing fluid. The clearcoat sets scratch and cleaner resistance and extends filiform corrosion resistance at the rim flange and bead seat, the two places where wheels fail first, while stone chip resistance stays with the flexible WH 510 layer beneath it, so film build and hardness are balanced against chip performance rather than pushed. It is the grade specified where diamond-cut and machined faces have to stay bright.

2. Features

  • Scratch and wheel cleaner resistance with a finished gloss
  • Extends filiform corrosion resistance at the rim flange and bead seat
  • Keeps diamond-cut and machined faces bright
  • Stoving grade for aluminium and two-component grade for plastic covers and low-temperature lines

3. Recommended uses

Clear topcoat for aluminium wheel systems over WH 510, including diamond-cut and machined faces, and for plastic wheel covers on the two-component grade.

Substrates. Applied over Arcmotive WH 510 on aluminium wheels, and over machined and diamond-cut faces.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
SubstrateArcmotive WH 510 on aluminium wheels. Machined and diamond-cut faces are bare aluminium after cutting, so they are degreased and given the chromate-free conversion coating again, rinsed and dried, before the clearcoat is applied.
Application methodElectrostatic spray on aluminium wheels. On plastic wheel covers, electrostatic only where a conductive primer or a conductive moulding provides the earth path; otherwise conventional spray.
Dry film thickness35 to 50 micrometres.
Stoving gradeFlash off 10 minutes, then stove 20 to 30 minutes at typically 140 degrees Celsius metal temperature, measured with a data logger travelling with the wheel.
Two-component grade, plastic covers and low-temperature linesMix at the stated ratio and use within the pot life, typically 3 hours at 25 degrees Celsius. Flash off 10 minutes, then cure typically 30 minutes at 80 degrees Celsius part temperature.
Quality controlRead gloss at 60 degrees against the approved master panel, and check adhesion on a witness panel run with the wheels.
Safety and handlingRefer to the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request against the product supplied.

Process. Electrostatic spray at 35 to 50 micrometres dry. Stoving grade: flash off 10 minutes, stove 20 to 30 minutes at 140 degrees Celsius metal temperature. Two-component grade for plastic covers and low-temperature lines: pot life 3 hours at 25 degrees Celsius, flash off 10 minutes, cure 30 minutes at 80 degrees Celsius part temperature.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated store, out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat; on the two-component grade keep the hardener tightly sealed because it reacts with atmospheric moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
