1. Product description

A two-component polyurethane topcoat available in matt, satin and gloss for consoles, gear surrounds, decorative inserts and switch panels. The crosslinked film gives the chemical resistance that single-component interior finishes cannot reach, in particular against sun cream, insect repellent, cosmetics and interior cleaning chemistry. It is the general-purpose interior grade where a customer protocol includes a chemical spot test list.

2. Features

  • Two-component polyurethane cured with an aliphatic isocyanate hardener
  • Matt, satin and gloss finishes held to the approved master panel
  • Resistance to sun cream, insect repellent, cosmetics and interior cleaners
  • Pot life 3 to 5 hours at 25 degrees Celsius
  • Adheres to ABS, PC/ABS, ASA and polyamide, and to polypropylene after flame or plasma treatment or over an adhesion promoter

3. Recommended uses

Centre consoles, gear surrounds, decorative inserts and switch panels. It is the general-purpose interior grade where the customer protocol includes a chemical spot test list.

Substrates. ABS, PC/ABS, ASA and polyamide, primed or unprimed. Polypropylene after flame or plasma treatment, or over a chlorinated polyolefin adhesion promoter.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
MixingMix base and aliphatic isocyanate hardener at the stated ratio, allow the stated induction time and use within 3 to 5 hours at 25 degrees Celsius. Never return mixed material to the pot.
Application methodSpray, by robot bell or reciprocator on volume lines and by hand gun for low volume.
Surface preparationClean, dry and destaticise the moulding. Polypropylene is flame or plasma treated to a wetting tension of 38 to 46 millinewtons per metre and coated inside the agreed hold time, or coated over a chlorinated polyolefin adhesion promoter.
Dry film thickness25 to 35 micrometres.
Flash off and cureFlash off 10 minutes, then cure 30 to 40 minutes at 70 to 80 degrees Celsius part temperature, measured with a data logger travelling with the part.
Quality controlRead colour and gloss against the approved master panel, and check adhesion on a witness panel run with the parts.
Safety and handlingRefer to the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request against the product supplied.

Process. Two-component mix with an aliphatic isocyanate hardener, pot life 3 to 5 hours at 25 degrees Celsius. Spray applied at 25 to 35 micrometres dry, flash off 10 minutes, cure 30 to 40 minutes at 70 to 80 degrees Celsius part temperature.

6. Storage and handling

Store base and hardener in their original closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated store, out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat, and keep the hardener tightly sealed because it reacts with atmospheric moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
