Arcmotive LT 410 Thermal Cure Lens Hardcoat
A thermally cured polysiloxane hardcoat for polycarbonate headlamp and tail-lamp lenses and clear covers. It is the reference point for abrasion resistance in the Arcmotive LT group, because a fully condensed siloxane network gives a haze increase in the Taber test that the ultraviolet cured LT 460 does not normally better.

1. Product description
A thermally cured polysiloxane hardcoat for polycarbonate headlamp and tail-lamp lenses and for clear covers, and the reference point for abrasion resistance in this group, because a fully condensed siloxane network holds the lowest haze increase in the Taber test. It is applied by flow coat or dip, which suits complex geometry, since a flowed film follows curvature and edges without the line-of-sight limits of spray, and it is the route to choose where the line has the oven capacity for a long bake. The cured film carries ultraviolet absorber to protect the polycarbonate underneath and to hold yellowing within the exposure limit.
2. Features
- Fully condensed siloxane network, with a Taber haze increase that LT 460 does not normally better
- Flow coat or dip application that follows lens curvature and edges without the line-of-sight limits of spray
- Ultraviolet absorber in the cured film protects the polycarbonate and holds yellowing within the exposure limit
- For lines with oven capacity for a 60 to 90 minute bake
- For polycarbonate only; not suitable for PMMA, which distorts below the cure temperature
3. Recommended uses
Polycarbonate headlamp and tail-lamp lenses and clear covers, particularly where the haze limit after abrasion is the deciding clause in the customer protocol.
Substrates. Polycarbonate lenses and clear covers, clean and free of mould release. Not suitable for PMMA, which distorts below the cure temperature.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Thermally cured polysiloxane hardcoat with ultraviolet absorber, solvent-borne | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear, optically transparent cured film | Customer or supplier protocol, visual assessment |
| Dry film thickness | 6 to 12 micrometres | ISO 2808 |
| Taber abrasion, CS-10F wheels, 500 g load | Haze increase below 2 per cent at 100 cycles and below 5 to 10 per cent at 1000 cycles, depending on the customer protocol; the reference grade for abrasion resistance in the Arcmotive LT group, which LT 460 does not normally better | ASTM D1044, haze measured to ASTM D1003 |
| Pencil hardness | 3H and above | ISO 15184 |
| Cross-cut adhesion, initial and after ageing | Classification 0 to 1 with no flaking at the cut intersections, held after humidity, thermal cycling and chemical exposure | ISO 2409 |
| Condensation humidity resistance | 240 to 504 hours at 40 degrees Celsius with no blistering, softening or adhesion loss, assessed after 1 to 2 hours recovery | ISO 6270-2 |
| Accelerated weathering, xenon arc with filtered daylight | 1000 to 2500 hours depending on the customer protocol, with haze and yellowing within the agreed limit | ISO 16474-2, or ISO 4892-2 where the protocol is written against the moulding |
| Temperature cycling | 10 cycles between minus 40 and 120 degrees Celsius with adhesion held and no blistering, cracking or flaking | Customer protocol cycle, assessed to ISO 2409 and ISO 4628-1 to ISO 4628-5 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Flow coat or dip, under filtered air with controlled temperature and relative humidity through the solvent flash. |
| Surface preparation | Polycarbonate lenses and clear covers, clean, dry and free of mould release and dust. Destaticise with ionised air immediately before coating where specified. |
| Bath control | Hold viscosity with the thinner named on the batch documentation, measured with a flow cup at a stated temperature. |
| Dry film thickness | 6 to 12 micrometres. |
| Flash off | Solvent flash 10 to 15 minutes at ambient. |
| Cure | 60 to 90 minutes at 120 to 130 degrees Celsius part temperature, measured with a data logger travelling with the part. |
| Safety and handling | Refer to the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request against the product supplied. |
Process. Flow coat or dip at 6 to 12 micrometres dry. Solvent flash 10 to 15 minutes at ambient, then cure 60 to 90 minutes at 120 to 130 degrees Celsius part temperature.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed containers in a cool, dry, well-ventilated store, out of direct sunlight and away from sources of heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
