1. Product description
A liquid stoving coating for the metal inside the machine that is not seen in service: chassis, base frames, brackets, fixings, back panels, motor mounts and cable trays. Its job is corrosion protection and resistance to handling damage during assembly, not appearance, so it is supplied in a limited colour range at a low film build. It is the lower tier of the interior subfamily and is not specified for surfaces in standing contact with hot water, detergent or condensate.
2. Features
- Liquid stoving coating for hidden interior metalwork
- Low film build in a limited colour range; appearance is not the governing property
- Air assisted or airless spray with a short flash off before stoving
- Lower tier of the Arcdom IN subfamily, not specified for standing contact with hot water, detergent or condensate
3. Recommended uses
Chassis, base frames, brackets, fixings, back panels, motor mounts and cable trays inside the machine. Wet-side parts in standing contact with hot water, detergent or condensate use Arcdom IN 320.
Substrates. Cold rolled steel, galvanised steel and phosphated steel. It is not specified for aluminium or moulded parts without a trial.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne thermosetting liquid stoving coating | Formulation |
| Appearance | Liquid, supplied in a limited colour range; the cured film is functional rather than decorative | Visual |
| Carrier | Organic solvent blend | Not applicable |
| Non-volatile content | Typically 45 to 60 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Dry film thickness | Typically 20 to 30 µm | ISO 2808 |
| Cross-cut adhesion | Classification 0 to 1, dry and after the wet and heat exposures in the specification, at 1 mm cut spacing | ISO 2409 |
| Falling weight impact | Typically 5 to 10 J direct impact without cracking or adhesion loss at the specified film build, with indenter, mass and drop height stated with the result | ISO 6272-1 |
| Cure confirmation | Typically 50 to 100 MEK double rubs without break-through to the substrate | ASTM D5402 |
| Condensation humidity | Typically 240 to 500 hours, toward the lower end of that window for this low build grade, with blistering and rusting rated to the ISO 4628 series | ISO 6270-2, rated to ISO 4628 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Air assisted or airless spray; applied to the part after forming, and not for sheet that is formed after coating |
| Surface preparation | Cold rolled or galvanised steel cleaned, conversion coated and dried off, or phosphated steel clean, dry and free of oil. The adhesion and humidity windows in this sheet assume a conversion coated surface, and bare galvanised steel is qualified by trial first. Aluminium and moulded parts only after a trial |
| Thinning | Only with the thinner specified for the grade, to the spray viscosity set for the equipment at line trial |
| Film thickness | Typically 20 to 30 µm dry |
| Flash off | 5 to 10 minutes, long enough to release solvent before the part enters the oven, or the film will pinhole |
| Stoving schedule | 20 to 30 minutes at 140 to 160 °C metal temperature |
| Next step | Cooled parts pass to assembly; cure is checked by solvent rub on a representative part or test panel |
Process. Air assisted or airless spray, flash off 5 to 10 minutes, stoved 20 to 30 minutes at 140 to 160 degrees C metal temperature. The flash off zone must be long enough to release solvent before the part enters the oven, or the film will pinhole.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from heat sources and direct sunlight, and stir thoroughly before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
