Arcdom AB 310 Easy-Clean Touch Point Topcoat
Arcdom AB 310 is a low surface energy stoving topcoat, clear or pigmented, for appliance surfaces that are touched every day. The property offered and tested is soil release and cleanability: fingerprints and food marks show less and come away with fewer wipes, to a degree that depends on the mark, the colour and the surface texture.

1. Product description
A low surface energy topcoat, clear or pigmented, for the surfaces a user touches every day: handles, door fronts, control panels, fascia trims and stainless look panels where smudging shows most. The property offered and tested is soil release and cleanability, meaning a fingerprint or a food mark is less visible and comes away with fewer wipes, and how much difference it makes depends on the mark, the colour and the surface texture, so panels are trialled with the customer before the finish is fixed. It can be supplied with an antimicrobial additive, in which case the additive manufacturer’s own regulatory documentation for the market of sale is reviewed in writing first, and any antibacterial, hygienic or biocidal statement on the finished appliance is a regulated claim made by the appliance manufacturer and not by Arctic.
2. Features
- Clear or pigmented low surface energy topcoat
- Assessed for cleanability and stain resistance on panels in the customer's own colour and texture
- Applied over cured Arcdom EX or coil coated basecoats, over Arcdom SA basecoats on metal parts only, and over stainless steel and anodised aluminium after a trial
- Optional antimicrobial additive, reviewed against the additive manufacturer's own regulatory documentation for the market of sale; Arctic makes no efficacy claim
- Not offered for surfaces in direct contact with food
3. Recommended uses
Handles, door fronts, control panels, fascia trims and stainless look panels in metal, coil coated sheet, stainless steel or anodised aluminium, where smudging shows most. Panels are trialled with the customer before the finish is fixed.
Substrates. Applied over a cured Arcdom EX, Arcdom SA or coil coated basecoat, and over stainless steel and anodised aluminium after a trial. Not offered for surfaces in direct contact with food.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne low surface energy stoving topcoat, clear or pigmented | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear or pigmented; cured film in the agreed gloss | Visual |
| Dry film thickness | Typically 20 to 30 µm over the cured basecoat | ISO 2808 |
| Specular gloss | Agreed level within the range window: matt 15 to 30, semi-gloss 40 to 60 or high gloss 80 to 95 GU at 60°, held within about 5 GU of the retained master panel | ISO 2813 |
| Intercoat adhesion, cross-cut | Classification 0 to 1 over the basecoat in use, checked on a trial panel before the line runs, with cut spacing set by the total film build | ISO 2409 |
| Pencil hardness | Typically 2H to 3H | ASTM D3363 |
| Abrasion and mar resistance | CS-10 wheels, 1 kg load, 1000 cycles: mass loss typically below 50 mg, measured on the complete system of Arcdom AB 310 over the basecoat in use, with any wear-through to the basecoat recorded, since at 20 to 30 µm the topcoat alone can be worn through before 1000 cycles | ISO 7784-2 |
| Resistance to household staining agents | 16 to 24 hour covered spot test at 23 °C with mustard, tomato, tea, coffee, vinegar, cooking oil and a common surface spray: no blistering, softening or permanent gloss change; a slight residual mark from strongly coloured agents on light colours is accepted | ASTM D1308 |
| Cleanability after repeated wiping | Typically 200 or more wipe cycles with the neutral cleaner used in service before visible burnish or colour change, on the customer's own colour and texture | Customer or supplier protocol: a wipe cycle test agreed in writing, fixing the cleaner, wiping medium, load and number of cycles |
| Detergent resistance | Typically 24 to 72 hours immersion in 1 per cent alkaline detergent at 60 °C, with no blistering, softening or adhesion loss after 24 hours recovery | ISO 2812-1 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Spray; applied to the part after forming, and not for sheet that is formed after coating |
| Basecoat condition | Applied within the recoat window of the basecoat in use, confirmed at trial. A basecoat beyond its recoat window, and any coil coated surface, is abraded and cleaned before overcoating. Over Arcdom SA basecoats it is used on metal parts only, since the 140 to 160 °C stoving schedule is above the heat distortion temperature of ABS, PC and PC/ABS mouldings. |
| Thinning | Only with the thinner specified for the grade, to the spray viscosity set for the equipment at line trial |
| Film thickness | Typically 20 to 30 µm dry |
| Flash off | 10 minutes before the oven |
| Stoving schedule | 20 minutes at 140 to 160 °C metal temperature |
| Line release | Intercoat adhesion is checked on a trial panel before the line runs |
Process. Spray within the recoat window stated on the Technical Data Sheet, flash off 10 minutes, stoved 20 minutes at 140 to 160 degrees C metal temperature. A basecoat left beyond its recoat window, and any coil coated surface, is abraded and cleaned before overcoating, and intercoat adhesion is checked on a trial panel before the line runs.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from heat sources and direct sunlight, and stir thoroughly before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
