Arcdom EX 320 Exterior Polyester Panel Powder Finish
Arcdom EX 320 is a saturated polyester thermosetting powder for appliance parts that see daylight and weather. It is the weatherable grade of the Arcdom EX panel subfamily, applied at a higher film build than EX 210 where gloss retention, humidity and salt spray performance matter as much as initial appearance.

1. Product description
A saturated polyester thermosetting powder for parts that see daylight and weather, principally air conditioner outdoor units, condenser casings, outdoor enclosures and balcony-mounted housings. It is the weatherable grade of the panel subfamily, applied at a higher film build than EX 210 and specified where gloss retention, humidity and salt spray performance matter as much as initial appearance. Where one appliance mixes indoor and outdoor panels, both are held against the same retained master standard for colour and gloss.
2. Features
- Saturated polyester thermosetting powder for parts exposed to daylight and weather
- Applied at a higher film build than Arcdom EX 210
- Held against the same retained master standard as the indoor panels of the same appliance
- Used over an epoxy or zinc rich powder primer where the salt spray requirement sits at the top of the window
3. Recommended uses
Air conditioner outdoor units, condenser casings, outdoor enclosures and balcony-mounted housings.
Substrates. Cold rolled steel, hot dip and electrogalvanised steel, aluminium and pre-galvanised sheet, over a zinc phosphate, iron phosphate or zirconium based conversion coating.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Saturated polyester thermosetting powder, solvent free | Formulation |
| Appearance | Free-flowing powder; cured film in the agreed colour, gloss and texture | Visual |
| Density | Typically 1.3 to 1.7 g/cm³, depending on colour | ISO 8130-3 |
| Dry film thickness | Typically 70 to 90 µm for the topcoat, excluding any powder primer | ISO 2808 |
| Specular gloss | Agreed level within the range window: matt 15 to 30, semi-gloss 40 to 60 or high gloss 80 to 95 GU at 60°, held within about 5 GU of the retained master panel | ISO 2813 |
| Colour difference against the retained master | Typically dE below 1.0 across the panels of one machine, with the tolerance, measuring geometry and illuminant agreed in writing before supply | ASTM D2244 |
| Cross-cut adhesion | Classification 0 to 1, dry and after the wet and heat exposures in the specification. Cut spacing follows total film build: 2 mm for the topcoat alone at 70 to 90 µm, 3 mm where an epoxy or zinc rich powder primer brings the total to 120 µm or more | ISO 2409 |
| Pencil hardness | Typically H to 2H | ASTM D3363 |
| Falling weight impact | Typically 5 to 10 J direct impact without cracking or adhesion loss at the specified film build, with indenter, mass and drop height stated with the result | ISO 6272-1 |
| Neutral salt spray | Typically 250 to 500 hours, with blistering, rusting and creep from the scribe rated to the ISO 4628 series. The topcoat alone over a correctly applied conversion coating sits toward the lower end of that window; the upper end is reached only over an epoxy or zinc rich powder primer. Results depend on the pretreatment and primer as much as on the topcoat | ISO 9227, rated to ISO 4628 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Electrostatic spray onto an earthed part, with powder recovery; applied to the part after forming, and not for sheet that is formed after coating |
| Surface preparation | Cleaned and rinsed, then a zinc phosphate, iron phosphate or zirconium based conversion coating, dried off before coating |
| Primer | An epoxy or zinc rich powder primer where the salt spray requirement sits at the top of the window, since a topcoat alone does not carry that duty |
| Dilution | None. Supplied ready to spray |
| Film thickness | Typically 70 to 90 µm dry topcoat, excluding any powder primer |
| Cure schedule | 12 to 20 minutes at 180 to 200 °C metal temperature, confirmed with a data logger on a representative body |
Process. Electrostatic spray onto an earthed part, cured 12 to 20 minutes at 180 to 200 degrees C metal temperature. An epoxy or zinc rich powder primer is used under it where the salt spray requirement sits at the top of the window, since a topcoat alone does not carry that duty.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed packaging in a cool, dry, covered area away from heat sources and direct sunlight, and protect opened packs from moisture pick-up. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
