Arcdom IN 320 Wet-Side and Cavity Coating

Arcdom IN 320 is a high build epoxy stoving coating for metal parts inside wet appliances. It is formulated for hot water, alkaline detergent, bleach and standing condensate rather than for appearance, and is applied at two to three times the film build of Arcdom IN 210.

1. Product description

A high build epoxy stoving coating for metal parts inside wet appliances: outer tubs, tub surrounds and fittings, sumps, condensate trays and base pans in washing machines, dishwashers and air conditioners. It is the higher tier of the interior subfamily, formulated for hot water, alkaline detergent, bleach and standing condensate rather than for appearance, and it is applied at two to three times the film build of IN 210. Where the drum is stainless steel, the liner is thermoformed plastic or the cavity is vitreous enamelled there is nothing to coat, so the part list is confirmed before a quantity is quoted.

2. Features

  • High build epoxy stoving coating for wet-side metal parts
  • Written against hot water, alkaline detergent, bleach and standing condensate
  • Applied by dip, flow coat or spray
  • Upper tier of the Arcdom IN subfamily, at two to three times the film build of IN 210
  • Not offered for surfaces in direct contact with food or potable water

3. Recommended uses

Outer tubs, tub surrounds and fittings, sumps, condensate trays and base pans in washing machines, dishwashers and air conditioners. Stainless steel drums, thermoformed liners and vitreous enamelled cavities are not coated, so the part list is confirmed before a quantity is quoted.

Substrates. Cold rolled and galvanised steel, and cast or pressed aluminium components, over a phosphate or zirconium conversion coating.

4. Typical properties

PropertyTypical valueMethod
TechnologySolvent-borne high build epoxy stoving coatingFormulation
AppearanceLiquid, supplied in a limited colour range; the cured film is functional rather than decorativeVisual
Non-volatile contentTypically 55 to 70 per cent by weightISO 3251
Dry film thicknessTypically 60 to 90 µmISO 2808
Cross-cut adhesionClassification 0 to 1, dry and after the wet exposures in the specification, at 2 mm cut spacingISO 2409
Pull-off adhesionTypically 5 MPa or better on steel, before and after the wet exposure in the specification, with the failure mode recorded as adhesive or cohesiveISO 4624
Detergent resistanceRated after 250 hours immersion in 1 per cent alkaline detergent at 60 °C, the typical wet-side test duration: no blistering, softening or adhesion loss after 24 hours recoveryISO 2812-1
Condensation humidityTypically 240 to 500 hours, with blistering and rusting rated to the ISO 4628 seriesISO 6270-2, rated to ISO 4628
Cure confirmationTypically 50 to 100 MEK double rubs without break-through to the substrateASTM D5402

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodDip, flow coat or spray; applied to the part after forming, and not for sheet that is formed after coating
Surface preparationPhosphate or zirconium conversion coating on cold rolled and galvanised steel and on cast or pressed aluminium components. Cast components are checked for outgassing on a trial part before the line runs, since air released from casting porosity in the oven pinholes a high build film.
ThinningOnly with the thinner specified for the grade, to the tank or spray viscosity set at line trial
Film thicknessTypically 60 to 90 µm dry
Flash off10 minutes before the oven
Stoving schedule20 to 30 minutes at 160 to 180 °C metal temperature
ScopeThe part list is confirmed against the substrate and the exposure present before quotation. Not for surfaces in direct contact with food or potable water

Process. Dip, flow coat or spray, flash off 10 minutes, stoved 20 to 30 minutes at 160 to 180 degrees C metal temperature. Not offered for surfaces in direct contact with food or potable water.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from heat sources and direct sunlight, and stir thoroughly before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
