Arcray OW 620 High-Build Rotary Screen and Last-Down Slip White
A high-build opaque white for a rotary screen station or a very high-volume anilox, giving opacity in one laydown over clear film. As the last-down layer on reverse-printed shrink sleeves it carries slip additive, so the printed reverse runs against guides and applicator without blocking, scuffing or stalling the sleeve feed.

1. Product description
A high-build opaque white for a rotary screen station or a very high-volume anilox, where opacity is required in one laydown over clear film. On a reverse-printed shrink sleeve the white is the last-down layer that backs the colours, so the formulation carries slip additive: the printed reverse has to run against the guide and the applicator without blocking, scuffing or stalling the sleeve feed. It is the highest film build and the highest cure demand in the range, and the slip level should be agreed before trial because it also affects any subsequent seaming or overprint.
2. Features
- Opacity in one laydown over clear film
- Slip additive for last-down use on reverse-printed shrink sleeves
- For rotary screen or very high-volume flexo anilox
- Slip level agreed before trial, as it affects seaming and overprint
- Dual cure under mercury-arc or LED at 395 nm at raised energy
3. Recommended uses
Last-down backing white on reverse-printed shrink sleeves in PETG, OPS and PVC, and single-laydown opaque white on clear PP and PET labels and metallised film.
Substrates. Shrink sleeve film in PETG, OPS and PVC, clear corona-treated or top-coated PP and PET, metallised film.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Dual-cure UV and LED-UV reactive system pigmented with titanium dioxide, with slip additive; no solvent or water | Formulation |
| Appearance | Opaque white viscous liquid | Visual |
| Carrier | None. A reactive system with no solvent or water, converted to film by photopolymerisation; nothing evaporates in print | Formulation |
| Viscosity at 25 °C, cone and plate | 3.0 to 6.0 Pa.s for rotary screen; 3.0 to 4.0 Pa.s where run from a very high-volume flexo anilox, stated for the feed system on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet | ISO 2884-1 |
| Fineness of grind | 10 to 20 micrometres | ISO 1524 |
| Density at 20 °C | 1.25 to 1.45 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1 |
| Cure energy at the web, UV-A | 300 to 600 mJ/cm², rising with film build | In-house, band-calibrated radiometer read at the web |
| Applied film weight, cured | 8 to 12 g/m² | In-house, gravimetric |
| Coefficient of friction of the printed white | Level agreed with the customer before trial | ISO 8295 |
| Opacity | Target agreed at enquiry and assessed on the production film in one laydown | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Narrow-web rotary screen or very high-volume flexo anilox. Last down on reverse-printed sleeves. Where used first down under colours on a surface-printed clear label, the slip level must be agreed first and the wetting and adhesion of the overprinted colours confirmed at the press trial |
| Surface preparation | Film and sleeve stock at 38 mN/m or above at the point of printing (ISO 8296 on PE and PP; equivalent wetting tension test on PET, PETG, OPS and PVC). In-line corona on PP and PE; PET and PETG normally top-coated or primed |
| Dilution | Supplied at press viscosity. No solvent or water. Any viscosity adjustment only with a reactive thinner approved by Arctic for the grade, within the limit on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet |
| Cure | Mercury-arc or LED at 395 nm at raised energy, dose checked at the white station with a radiometer at the web. LED is favoured on shrink film because it puts little infrared load into the web |
| Web handling | Chill roll recommended on shrink film so the film runs through print undistorted |
| Next step | Confirm slip, block and scuff through the applicator, any seaming or overprint, and shrink the printed sleeve through the production shrink tunnel at the required shrink ratio to confirm the white follows the film without cracking or loss of adhesion, at a press trial on the production film |
Process. Narrow-web rotary screen or high-volume flexo anilox, dual cure under mercury-arc or LED at 395 nm at raised energy, chill roll recommended on shrink film.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed, opaque original container in a cool, dry place away from daylight, UV sources and heat, stir before use to take up any settlement, and return press ink to a covered, light-proof container after the run. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
