Arcray LC 310 Mixing Scheme Base Set

A set of single-pigment base colours with balancing white, black and extender, supplied with formulations so that line and spot colours are blended to the brand standard at the printer rather than ordered as pre-matched batches. All bases share one vehicle and one cure response, so every blend cures at the same lamp setting.

1. Product description

A set of single-pigment base colours with balancing white, black and extender, supplied with formulations so that line and spot colours are blended to the brand standard at the printer rather than ordered as pre-matched batches. The bases share one vehicle and one cure response, so a blend cures like every other blend on the press and does not need a separate lamp setting. Within the LC subfamily its purpose is repeatability of a colour across sites and repeat orders, not the strength of any single base.

2. Features

  • Single-pigment bases with balancing white, black and extender
  • Supplied with blending formulations for line and spot colours
  • One vehicle and one cure response across every blend
  • Set for repeatability of a colour across sites and repeat orders
  • Dual cure under mercury-arc or LED at 395 nm

3. Recommended uses

Blending line and spot colours to brand standards at the printer's mixing station, for labels on paper and board facestock, filmic PP, PE and PET, thermal top-coated paper and vinyl. Suited to converters holding one scheme at one site or several.

Substrates. Self-adhesive paper and board facestock, corona-treated or top-coated PP, PE and PET, thermal top-coated paper, cast and calendered vinyl.

4. Typical properties

TechnologyDual-cure UV and LED-UV reactive system, single-pigment bases on a common vehicle; no solvent or waterFormulation
CompositionSingle-pigment base colours with balancing white, black and extenderFormulation
CarrierNone. A reactive system with no solvent or water, converted to film by photopolymerisation; nothing evaporates in printFormulation
Viscosity at 25 °C, cone and plate0.6 to 1.8 Pa.s for the basesISO 2884-1
Fineness of grind5 to 10 micrometres for the colour bases; the balancing white is stated on its own confirmed Technical Data SheetISO 1524
Density at 20 °C1.02 to 1.20 g/cm³ for the colour bases; the balancing white is stated on its own confirmed Technical Data SheetISO 2811-1
Cure energy at the web, UV-A60 to 140 mJ/cm² under mercury-arc; 40 to 120 mJ/cm² under LED at 395 nm and 8 to 16 W/cm², the same setting for every blendIn-house, band-calibrated radiometer read at the web

Colour of the blendVerified against the brand standard before the run; the delta E tolerance and measurement condition are agreed at enquirySpectrophotometric measurement to ISO 13655
Light fastness, blue wool reference scaleBlue wool 4 to 7, depending on the pigments in the blendISO 12040, filtered xenon arc against the blue wool reference scale

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
BlendingWeigh the bases to the supplied formula on a calibrated balance; record each blend and the ink returned from the press, and re-use returned ink within the scheme
Colour checkProof on the production stock and measure by spectrophotometer to ISO 13655 before the run
Application methodNarrow-web UV flexo, typically on 4.0 to 6.0 cm³/m² anilox for line and spot colours
Surface preparationFilmic facestock at 38 mN/m or above at the point of printing, not at the point of manufacture (ISO 8296 on PE and PP; equivalent wetting tension test on PET and vinyl). In-line corona on PP and PE; PET normally top-coated or primed
DilutionSupplied at press viscosity. No solvent or water. Any viscosity adjustment only with a reactive thinner approved by Arctic for the grade, within the limit on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet. Strength is reduced with the scheme extender
CureMercury-arc or LED at 395 nm at the same lamp setting for every blend, dose verified with a radiometer at the web. On thermal top-coated paper LED is normally the safer specification, as arc infrared can darken the thermal coating
HousekeepingKeep the mixing station free of contamination from metallic and fluorescent grades

Process. Narrow-web UV flexo, blended by weight to formula and checked by spectrophotometer before the run, dual cure under mercury-arc or LED at 395 nm.

6. Storage and handling

Store each base in the closed, opaque original container in a cool, dry place away from daylight, UV sources and heat, keep it closed between weighings, and return press ink to a covered, light-proof container after the run. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
