Arcray LM 960 Low-Migration LED-UV Opaque White
A low-migration opaque white for LED-UV narrow-web flexo or rotary screen printing, with the highest film build in the LM subfamily and the same reactive, higher-functionality raw material approach as the LM colours. Undercure is the route by which uncured material becomes extractable, so line speed, lamp power and lamp-to-web distance are fixed and verified during the trial.

1. Product description
A low-migration opaque white for LED-UV narrow-web printing, combining the highest film build in the LM subfamily with the same reactive, higher-functionality raw material strategy used across the low-migration grades. It is the most demanding grade in the range to cure, because the titanium dioxide that delivers opacity also scatters and absorbs the 395 nm energy that has to reach the base of a thick film, and undercure is the route by which uncured material becomes extractable. Line speed, lamp power and lamp-to-web distance therefore have to be fixed and verified during the trial, and migration behaviour for the finished pack is established by testing that pack.
2. Features
- LED cure only, at 395 nm, at raised cure energy
- Highest film build in the LM subfamily
- Higher-functionality raw materials to reduce extractable material
- For flexo or rotary screen on clear film and sleeve film
- Radiometer verification of cure on every run
3. Recommended uses
Opaque white on clear PP, PE and PET filmic labels, PETG and OPS sleeves and metallised film for the outer surface of indirect food contact packs, printed with the Arcray LM 910 colours. Migration behaviour for the finished pack is established by testing that pack.
Substrates. Clear corona-treated or top-coated PP, PE and PET filmic facestock, PETG and OPS sleeve film, metallised film.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | LED-UV curing low-migration system of higher-functionality monomers, oligomers and photoinitiators, pigmented with titanium dioxide; no solvent or water | Formulation |
| Appearance | Opaque white viscous liquid | Visual |
| Carrier | None. A reactive system with no solvent or water, converted to film by photopolymerisation; nothing evaporates in print | Formulation |
| Viscosity at 25 °C, cone and plate | 2.0 to 4.0 Pa.s for flexo anilox feed; up to 6.0 Pa.s where supplied for rotary screen, stated for the feed system on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet | ISO 2884-1 |
| Fineness of grind | 10 to 20 micrometres | ISO 1524 |
| Density at 20 °C | 1.25 to 1.45 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1 |
| Cure energy at the web, UV-A | LED at 395 nm only: 300 to 600 mJ/cm², rising with film build, verified at the web on every run | In-house, band-calibrated radiometer read at the web |
| Applied film weight, cured | 4 to 12 g/m², set together with the cure dose at the trial | In-house, gravimetric |
| Opacity | Target agreed at enquiry and assessed on the production film at the agreed film weight | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Migration | Not a property of the ink alone. Established for the finished pack by testing that pack in its own construction, filling and storage conditions | Customer or supplier protocol, against the regulation the brand owner requires |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Narrow-web LED-UV flexo or rotary screen at 395 nm, LED cure only |
| Surface preparation | Film and sleeve stock at 38 mN/m or above at the point of printing (ISO 8296 on PE and PP; equivalent wetting tension test on PET, PETG and OPS). In-line corona on PP and PE; PET and PETG normally top-coated or primed |
| Dilution | Supplied at press viscosity. No solvent, water or additions of any kind other than materials approved by Arctic for the LM grades; standard Arcray grades and thinners must not be mixed in |
| Cure | Raised cure energy, with press speed reduced where required. Titanium dioxide scatters and absorbs the 395 nm energy that has to reach the base of the film, so line speed, lamp power and lamp-to-web distance are fixed at the trial and verified by radiometer on every run |
| Housekeeping | Segregated pumps, buckets, blades and cleaning equipment, kept apart from standard grades; control set-off in the rewound reel |
| Next step | Arcray LM 910 colours printed with the white; on sleeve film, shrink the printed sleeve through the production shrink tunnel at the required shrink ratio to confirm the white follows the film without cracking or loss of adhesion; migration testing of the finished pack, with the declaration and compliance dossier issued on request against the product supplied |
Process. Narrow-web LED-UV flexo or rotary screen at 395 nm, LED cure only, raised cure energy, reduced press speed where required, radiometer verification each run.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed, opaque original container in a cool, dry place away from daylight, UV sources and heat, segregated from standard grades and handled with dedicated equipment; stir before use to take up any settlement. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
