Arcvista DO 120 Gloss Drip-Off Overprint Varnish

A UV curing gloss overprint varnish flooded over the whole sheet from the coater, wet on wet over Arcvista DO 110. It retracts over the primed areas into a thin, light scattering film that reads matt and levels to full gloss elsewhere, giving the matt and gloss contrast of the drip-off effect.

1. Product description

A UV gloss overprint varnish flooded over the whole sheet from the coater, wet on wet over the Arcvista DO 110 primer. It retracts over the primed areas into a thin uneven film that scatters light and reads matt, and levels to full gloss everywhere else, so the contrast between the two fields is the product. Higher film weight raises gloss in the open areas and sharpens the edge of the matt pattern, and the pair is formulated, batched and specified together.

2. Features

  • Flood applied from the coater, wet on wet over the matched primer
  • Gloss field of 75 to 95 GU and matt field of 10 to 25 GU at 60°
  • Higher film weight raises gloss in the open areas and sharpens the edge of the matt pattern
  • Formulated, batched and specified together with Arcvista DO 110

3. Recommended uses

Drip-off matt and gloss effects on folding cartons, covers and printed promotional work on coated board and coated litho papers.

Substrates. Coated folding boxboard, cast-coated board and coated litho papers; gloss laminated and other non-absorbent surfaces on trial only

SequenceWet on wet over Arcvista DO 110 printed in the last offset station ahead of the coater
DilutionSupplied ready for use; not diluted
Applied coat weight, dry1.5 to 4 g/m², higher weights raising gloss in the open areas and sharpening the matt edge
CureUV cured in line after the coater; cure confirmed on the job
CompatibilityUsed only with Arcvista DO 110; not combined with a primer or varnish from another system

Process. Chambered doctor blade coater or coating unit, flood applied, UV cured

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed containers in a cool, dry place, protected from daylight, UV light sources, heat and frost. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
