Arcvista PL 310 Pearlescent Satin Coating
A UV curing pearlescent coating carrying fine mica based platelet pigment that gives a soft satin lustre over print and over plain board. It is the quieter of the two pearl grades, used where the effect should read as a sheen rather than as a colour change.

1. Product description
A pearlescent coating carrying fine mica based platelet pigment that develops a soft satin lustre over print and over plain board. Lustre depends on the platelets lying flat and parallel to the surface, so an even wet film and controlled levelling matter more than raising the pigment load. It is the quieter of the two pearl grades and is used where the effect should read as a sheen rather than as a colour change.
2. Features
- Fine mica based platelet pigment for a soft satin lustre
- Reads as a sheen over print or plain board, without a colour change
- Lustre governed by an even wet film and controlled levelling rather than pigment load
- Applied from a coater or flexo unit at 1.5 to 4 g/m² dry
3. Recommended uses
Satin pearl finishes on folding cartons, labels and printed board where a quiet sheen is wanted over the print or over plain board.
Substrates. Coated folding boxboard, coated papers, labelstock and coated laminated liners
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | UV curing coating with mica based pearlescent pigment, effectively solvent free | Formulation |
| Appearance | Pearlescent liquid, curing to a satin lustre | Visual |
| Viscosity at 23 °C | 250 to 1,200 mPa·s, towards the upper end of the window | ISO 2884-1 (cone and plate) |
| Density at 20 °C | 1.00 to 1.15 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1 |
| Non-volatile matter | 96 to 100 per cent, effectively solvent free | ASTM D5403 (volatile content of radiation curable materials, cured before heating) |
| Lustre | Assessed against the agreed standard on the production substrate | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Adhesion of the cured film | No coating removal at a tape test on the uncut cured film; on film, laminate or rigid sheet, 4B to 5B by cross-cut and tape, or classification 0 to 1 by cross-cut | Tape test to customer or supplier protocol on board and paper; ASTM D3359 Method B and ISO 2409 (cross-cut) on film, laminate or rigid sheet |
| Rub resistance, cured film | No transfer or loss of effect after 50 cycles at 2 lb (0.9 kg) load | ASTM D5264 |
| Coefficient of friction, cured film | 0.25 to 0.55 static and kinetic | ASTM D1894 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Coater or flexo unit with a medium to high volume anilox |
| Preparation | Stir gently before use so the platelet pigment is evenly dispersed; avoid high shear mixing, which can break the platelets |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; not diluted |
| Applied coat weight, dry | 1.5 to 4 g/m² |
| Film control | Even wet film and controlled levelling before cure, so the platelets lie flat and parallel to the surface |
| Cure | UV cured in line; cure confirmed on the job |
Process. Coater or flexo unit with a medium to high volume anilox, UV cured
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed containers in a cool, dry place, protected from daylight, UV light sources, heat and frost. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
