Arccoil PV 510 PVDF Coil Topcoat, Solid Colours
A two-coat 70:30 polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic coil topcoat in solid colours, applied over Arccoil PR 250 at a nominal 20 microns, within the 18 to 25 micron topcoat window. It is specified for architectural cladding, rainscreen and curtain wall on long-term colour, gloss and chalk resistance, and is supplied low to medium gloss.

1. Product description
A two-coat 70:30 polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic topcoat in solid colours, applied over Arccoil PR 250 at a nominal twenty microns, for architectural cladding, rainscreen and curtain wall specified on long-term colour, gloss and chalk resistance. Pigmentation is built on ceramic and other inorganic complex pigments, with selected high performance organic pigments only where the colour cannot be reached inorganically, and those colours carry a shorter colour retention expectation. Gloss is limited by the chemistry, so the grade is supplied low to medium gloss rather than high gloss.
2. Features
- 70:30 PVDF and acrylic binder
- Ceramic and inorganic complex pigments; colours that need organic pigments have shorter colour retention
- Flexible film that forms well, softer than a silicone-modified polyester and marks more easily
- Low to medium gloss, limited by the chemistry
- Matched to Arccoil PR 250 primer
3. Recommended uses
Architectural cladding, rainscreen and curtain wall where the specification is written around long-term colour, gloss and chalk resistance. Supplied on primed aluminium strip, or on primed galvanised or zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel where the specification allows steel.
Substrates. Primed aluminium strip, and primed galvanised or zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel where the specification allows a steel substrate.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne 70:30 polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic | Formulation |
| Dry film thickness | Nominally 20 microns, inside the 18 to 25 micron topcoat window, over 5 to 8 microns of Arccoil PR 250 | EN 13523-1; ASTM D7091 for the magnetic induction or eddy current check on the line |
| Peak metal temperature at oven exit | 232 to 249 degrees Celsius | Strip-attached thermocouple or peak metal temperature recorder read on the line; a line measurement, as there is no dedicated published test standard |
| Specular gloss, 60 degrees | 25 to 40 gloss units, low to medium gloss | ISO 2813, ASTM D523, EN 13523-2 |
| Colour difference against the approved panel | Delta E commonly specified at not more than 1.0 for solid colours | ASTM D2244, EN 13523-3 |
| T-bend flexibility on 0.5 mm strip, no cracking with a tape pull across the bend | 0T to 1T | EN 13523-7, ASTM D4145 |
| Pencil hardness | HB to F, as the fluoropolymer film is soft by design | EN 13523-4, ASTM D3363 |
| Solvent resistance, methyl ethyl ketone double rubs | 50 to 100 double rubs without exposure of the primer, used as a cure check on the line | EN 13523-11, ASTM D5402 |
| Accelerated ultraviolet exposure, UV-A 340 lamps with condensation | 1000 to 2000 hours, with gloss retention and colour change agreed for the grade; cabinet hours rank systems and do not convert into years in service | EN 13523-10, ISO 16474-3, ASTM G154 |
| Neutral salt spray resistance, finished system | 500 to 1000 hours with creep from the scribe not more than 2 mm and no field blistering, set by the system chemistry and film build | ISO 9227, ASTM B117, EN 13523-8 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roll coating at the finish coater, front face, as the second coat of a two-coat system |
| Primer | Arccoil PR 250 at 5 to 8 microns, cured to the PVDF window of 232 to 249 degrees Celsius and quenched |
| Viscosity adjustment | Hold the supply at the agreed viscosity and coater temperature; correct with the supplied thinner only, to the supplied ratio |
| Applied film | Nominally 20 microns dry, held inside the 18 to 25 micron topcoat window; check thickness at both edges and the centre of the strip |
| Cure | 232 to 249 degrees Celsius peak metal temperature, then quench; confirm cure with a solvent rub check rather than by appearance |
| Line speed | The higher peak metal temperature sets a lower maximum line speed than a polyester; confirm the ovens can hold the window at the running speed |
Process. Roll coated to nominally twenty microns dry over five to eight microns of Arccoil PR 250, cured to a peak metal temperature of 232 to 249 degrees Celsius and quenched. The higher peak metal temperature sets a lower maximum line speed than a polyester.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight and heat, and stir to a uniform consistency before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
