Arccoil SP 450 High Silicone Content Polyester Coil Topcoat
A higher silicone content version of the Arccoil SP chemistry, applied at 20 to 25 microns for very hot, high ultraviolet exposures where a fluoropolymer is not specified, and for sheet that is stacked, handled and site-cut repeatedly. It gives a harder film and higher gloss retention than Arccoil SP 410.

Issue 2026.09
1. Product description
A higher silicone content version of the same chemistry, for the hottest and highest ultraviolet exposures in the range short of a fluoropolymer, and for sheet that is stacked, handled and site-cut repeatedly. It gives the hardest film of the polyester-based grades and higher gloss retention than Arccoil SP 410. It is the least forgiving grade in the range to form, so it should be specified only for shallow profiles and generous bend radii, with forming trials agreed before the coil is booked.
2. Features
- Higher silicone content than Arccoil SP 410
- Harder film than the other polyester-based grades in the range
- Higher gloss retention than Arccoil SP 410
- Specified for shallow profiles and generous bend radii, with forming trials agreed before the coil is booked
3. Recommended uses
Roofing and cladding on shallow profiles in hot, high ultraviolet locations where a fluoropolymer is not specified. Also for sheet that is stacked, handled and site-cut repeatedly.
Substrates. Primed galvanised steel, zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel and aluminium strip.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne silicone-modified polyester, higher silicone content | Formulation |
| Dry film thickness | 20 to 25 microns over primer | EN 13523-1; ASTM D7091 for the magnetic induction or eddy current check on the line |
| Peak metal temperature at oven exit | 232 to 249 degrees Celsius | Strip-attached thermocouple or peak metal temperature recorder read on the line; a line measurement, as there is no dedicated published test standard |
| Specular gloss, 60 degrees | 30 to 70 gloss units, set to the specification | ISO 2813, ASTM D523, EN 13523-2 |
| Colour difference against the approved panel | Delta E commonly specified at not more than 1.0 for solid colours | ASTM D2244, EN 13523-3 |
| T-bend flexibility on 0.5 mm strip, no cracking with a tape pull across the bend | 2T to 3T, toward the 3T end of the window; less forgiving to form than Arccoil SP 410, so specify for shallow profiles and generous bend radii and confirm the limit by forming trials on the actual roll former before the coil is booked | EN 13523-7, ASTM D4145 |
| Pencil hardness | H to 2H; the hardest film of the polyester-based grades in the range | EN 13523-4, ASTM D3363 |
| Solvent resistance, methyl ethyl ketone double rubs | 50 to 100 double rubs without exposure of the primer, used as a cure check on the line | EN 13523-11, ASTM D5402 |
| Accelerated ultraviolet exposure, UV-A 340 lamps with condensation | 1000 to 2000 hours, with gloss retention and colour change agreed for the grade; cabinet hours rank systems and do not convert into years in service | EN 13523-10, ISO 16474-3, ASTM G154 |
| Neutral salt spray resistance, finished system | 500 to 1000 hours with creep from the scribe not more than 2 mm and no field blistering, set by the system chemistry and film build | ISO 9227, ASTM B117, EN 13523-8 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roll coating at the finish coater, front face, with the backing coat applied to the reverse in the same pass |
| Primer | Arccoil PR 210 or Arccoil PR 250, cured and quenched before the finish coater |
| Viscosity adjustment | Hold the supply at the agreed viscosity and coater temperature; correct with the supplied thinner only, to the supplied ratio |
| Applied film | 20 to 25 microns dry; check thickness at both edges and the centre of the strip |
| Cure | 232 to 249 degrees Celsius peak metal temperature, then quench and recoil; confirm cure with a solvent rub check rather than by appearance |
| Forming | Specify only for shallow profiles and generous bend radii, and agree forming trials on the actual roll former before the coil is booked |
Process. Roll coated to twenty to twenty-five microns dry over primer, cured to a peak metal temperature of 232 to 249 degrees Celsius, quenched and recoiled.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight and heat, and stir to a uniform consistency before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
