Arccoil EX 710 Liquid Coating for Architectural Aluminium Extrusions

A spray-applied liquid coating for aluminium window, door, shopfront and curtain wall profiles, supplied on a polyester binder for general architectural work or on a 70:30 PVDF and acrylic binder where the profile must match the coil coated sheet on the same building. It is applied over a chromate-free conversion coating and a matched primer, then oven cured.

1. Product description

A spray-applied liquid coating for window, door, shopfront and curtain wall profiles, supplied on a polyester binder for general architectural work and on a 70:30 PVDF and acrylic binder where the specification matches the coil coated sheet on the same building. It is applied over a chromate-free conversion coating and a matched primer, then oven cured to the metal temperature the binder needs. It exists to serve applicators running a liquid spray line and oven, where powder is not the specified route.

2. Features

  • Polyester binder for general architectural work
  • 70:30 PVDF and acrylic binder to match coil coated sheet on the same building
  • Applied over a chromate-free conversion coating and a matched primer
  • Sprayed wet on wet or with an intermediate flash off
  • For applicators running a liquid spray line and oven where powder is not the specified route

3. Recommended uses

Architectural aluminium extrusions for windows, doors, shopfronts and curtain wall. Colour continuity with coil coated sheet is agreed on approved panels before production, because the two routes lay down different films.

Substrates. Architectural aluminium extrusions, cleaned, etched and chromate-free conversion coated, then primed.

4. Typical properties

PropertyTypical valueMethod
TechnologySolvent-borne polyester, or 70:30 polyvinylidene fluoride and acrylic, liquid spray systemFormulation
Supply viscositySupplied at the viscosity agreed for the spray equipment and stated on the Certificate of AnalysisISO 2431 flow cup, or customer or supplier protocol

Cure, metal temperature and holdPolyester binder about 180 to 200 degrees Celsius for 10 to 20 minutes; PVDF binder about 230 to 245 degrees Celsius for around 10 minutesCustomer or supplier protocol, metal temperature logged on the profile
Specular gloss, 60 degreesSet to the specification: polyester binder within 30 to 80 gloss units, PVDF binder within 25 to 40ISO 2813, ASTM D523

Pencil hardnessPolyester binder F to 2H; PVDF binder HB to FASTM D3363
Solvent resistance, methyl ethyl ketone double rubs50 to 100 double rubs without exposure of the primer, used as a cure checkASTM D5402
Neutral salt spray resistance, finished system500 to 1000 hours with creep from the scribe not more than 2 mm and no field blistering, set by the system chemistry and film buildISO 9227, ASTM B117

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodSpray application on a liquid spray line with an oven, wet on wet or with an intermediate flash off
Surface preparationExtrusions cleaned, etched and chromate-free conversion coated, then primed with the matched primer
Viscosity adjustmentCorrect with the supplied thinner only, to the supplied ratio
Applied filmPrimer 5 to 10 microns and topcoat 20 to 30 microns dry
Cure, polyester binderMetal temperature of about 180 to 200 degrees Celsius held for 10 to 20 minutes
Cure, PVDF binderMetal temperature of about 230 to 245 degrees Celsius held for around 10 minutes
Alloy and temperConfirm the bake with the extruder against the alloy and temper, because a long bake at fluoropolymer cure temperature can soften a 6000 series temper

Process. Primer at five to ten microns and topcoat at twenty to thirty microns dry, sprayed wet on wet or with an intermediate flash off, then oven cured. The polyester binder cures at a metal temperature of about 180 to 200 degrees Celsius held for ten to twenty minutes; the PVDF binder needs about 230 to 245 degrees Celsius metal temperature held for around ten minutes. Confirm the bake with the extruder against the alloy and temper, because a long bake at fluoropolymer cure temperature can soften a 6000 series temper.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight and heat, and stir to a uniform consistency before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
