Arccoil PE 350 Exterior Durable Polyester Coil Topcoat

A polyester coil topcoat applied at 20 to 25 microns, built on a polyester resin selected for exterior durability and pigmented with durable organic and inorganic complex pigments. It holds gloss and colour longer than Arccoil PE 310 while staying inside polyester forming latitude.

1. Product description

A polyester topcoat at twenty to twenty-five microns built on a polyester resin selected for exterior durability and pigmented with durable organic and inorganic complex pigments, for roofing sheet and wall cladding in open exterior service. It holds gloss and colour longer than Arccoil PE 310 and carries the higher film build that exterior specifications usually ask for, while staying inside polyester forming latitude. Choose it over Arccoil SP where the roll former needs a softer and more formable film than a silicone-modified polyester allows.

2. Features

  • Polyester resin selected for exterior durability
  • Durable organic and inorganic complex pigments
  • Longer gloss and colour retention than Arccoil PE 310
  • Higher film build for exterior specifications
  • Softer, more formable film than a silicone-modified polyester

3. Recommended uses

Roofing sheet and wall cladding in open exterior service. Chosen over Arccoil SP where the roll former needs a softer and more formable film.

Substrates. Primed galvanised steel, zinc-aluminium alloy coated steel and aluminium strip.

4. Typical properties

PropertyTypical valueMethod
TechnologySolvent-borne exterior-durable polyesterFormulation
Dry film thickness20 to 25 microns over primerEN 13523-1; ASTM D7091 for the magnetic induction or eddy current check on the line
Peak metal temperature at oven exit224 to 241 degrees CelsiusStrip-attached thermocouple or peak metal temperature recorder read on the line; a line measurement, as there is no dedicated published test standard
Specular gloss, 60 degrees30 to 80 gloss units, set to the specificationISO 2813, ASTM D523, EN 13523-2
Colour difference against the approved panelDelta E commonly specified at not more than 1.0 for solid coloursASTM D2244, EN 13523-3
T-bend flexibility on 0.5 mm strip, no cracking with a tape pull across the bend1T to 2TEN 13523-7, ASTM D4145
Pencil hardnessF to 2HEN 13523-4, ASTM D3363
Solvent resistance, methyl ethyl ketone double rubs50 to 100 double rubs without exposure of the primer, used as a cure check on the lineEN 13523-11, ASTM D5402
Accelerated ultraviolet exposure, UV-A 340 lamps with condensation1000 to 2000 hours, with gloss retention and colour change agreed for the grade; cabinet hours rank systems and do not convert into years in serviceEN 13523-10, ISO 16474-3, ASTM G154
Neutral salt spray resistance, finished system500 to 1000 hours with creep from the scribe not more than 2 mm and no field blistering, set by the system chemistry and film buildISO 9227, ASTM B117, EN 13523-8

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodRoll coating at the finish coater, front face, with the backing coat applied to the reverse in the same pass
PrimerArccoil PR 210 at 5 to 7 microns, cured and quenched before the finish coater
Viscosity adjustmentHold the supply at the agreed viscosity and coater temperature; correct with the supplied thinner only, to the supplied ratio
Applied film20 to 25 microns dry; check thickness at both edges and the centre of the strip
Cure224 to 241 degrees Celsius peak metal temperature, then quench and recoil; the higher film build may require a reduction in line speed to hold the peak metal temperature, but do not run above the window, as over-cure embrittles a polyester and shows as a failed T-bend
FormingRun a forming trial on the actual roll former before committing a production coil, and judge adhesion after forming rather than on the flat panel

Process. Roll coated to twenty to twenty-five microns dry over primer, cured to a peak metal temperature of 224 to 241 degrees Celsius, quenched and recoiled. The higher film build may require a reduction in line speed to hold the peak metal temperature.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area away from direct sunlight and heat, and stir to a uniform consistency before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
