Arcfoil PR 110 Foil and Composite Wash Primer
A thin-film wash primer that keys to aluminium foil and foil composite and carries the heat-seal, peel or protective topcoat above it. It is specified where direct adhesion of the topcoat is unreliable, and it is not a seal in itself.

1. Product description
A thin-film wash primer that keys to aluminium foil and to foil composite and carries the heat-seal, peel or protective topcoat above it. It is specified where direct adhesion is unreliable: hard-tempered foil, a laminate face, or a foil whose residual rolling oil level varies more than the topcoat will tolerate. It is a primer and is not a seal in itself.
2. Features
- Thin-film key coat for foil of all tempers and for foil composite
- Used where hard temper, a laminate face or variable residual rolling oil limits direct adhesion
- Carries Arcfoil heat-seal, peel and protective topcoats
- Overcoated inline or on a second pass
3. Recommended uses
Priming aluminium foil from 15 to 200 micron and foil and paper, foil and PET or foil and polyamide composite ahead of an Arcfoil sealing, peel or protective lacquer.
Substrates. Aluminium foil of all tempers 15 to 200 micron; foil and paper, foil and PET and foil and polyamide composite.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne thin-film wash primer, adhesion-promoting resin binder | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear, low-viscosity liquid | visual |
| Carrier | Organic solvent blend | formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 15 to 20 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Supply viscosity | Below the reliable range of the 4 mm ISO flow cup; measured on a rotational viscometer, with the value for the batch stated on the Certificate of Analysis | ISO 2884-1 |
| Dry coat weight applied | 0.5 to 1.5 g/m2 | in-house, gravimetric |
| Peak metal temperature in the cure oven | 150 to 180 degrees Celsius | in-house, travelling thermocouple on the web |
| Adhesion of primer and topcoat system | No removal on tape pull or after a bend over a mandrel; cross-cut classification 0 to 1 where the gauge allows | in-house tape pull and mandrel bend; ISO 2409 on foil laminate and on foil of 50 micron and above |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roll coated at low wet film on a web coating line, oven cured |
| Substrate and surface preparation | Aluminium foil of all tempers 15 to 200 micron, or foil and paper, foil and PET or foil and polyamide composite; clean, dry surface with residual rolling oil level confirmed on incoming coils |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; if reduction is needed, use only the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade and recheck supply viscosity and solids |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.5 to 1.5 g/m2, checked gravimetrically across the full web width |
| Cure | Peak metal temperature 150 to 180 degrees Celsius, measured with a travelling thermocouple on the web |
| Next step | Overcoat with the specified Arcfoil heat-seal, peel or protective lacquer inline or on a second pass; test adhesion on the cured web, not on a hand drawdown |
Process. Roll coated at low wet film on a web coating line and oven cured, then overcoated inline or on a second pass.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original containers, kept closed between uses so that solvent loss does not raise the solids, in a cool, dry, covered area out of direct sunlight and within the temperature range given on the label. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
