Arcfoil PT 150 Deep-Drawable Protective Baking Lacquer
A flexible baking lacquer for aluminium foil that is cold formed into trays, containers or blister cavities, formulated to stretch with the metal without cracking at the draw radius or the corners. It protects the foil face through forming, filling and handling and accepts overprint where required.

1. Product description
A flexible baking lacquer for foil that will be cold formed into a tray, a container or a blister cavity, formulated to stretch with the metal without cracking at the draw radius or the corner. It protects the foil face through forming, filling and handling and accepts overprint where required. Against PT 270 it is the forming grade: it is specified for draw depth, not for sterilisation.
2. Features
- Flexible cured film that follows the foil through cold forming and deep drawing
- Protects the foil face through forming, filling and handling
- Accepts overprint where required
- Specified for draw depth; retort packs use Arcfoil PT 270
3. Recommended uses
Formed foil trays and containers, the foil web of cold-form blister laminate, and foil and polyamide composites formed on cold-forming or deep-drawing presses.
Substrates. Aluminium foil 40 to 200 micron for formable trays; the foil web used in cold-form blister laminate; foil and polyamide composite.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne flexible protective baking lacquer, heat-crosslinked resin binder | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear to slightly hazy liquid | visual |
| Carrier | Organic solvent blend | formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 30 to 40 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Supply viscosity, ISO flow cup 4 mm at 23 degrees Celsius | 30 to 50 s | ISO 2431 |
| Dry coat weight applied | 3 to 6 g/m2 | in-house, gravimetric |
| Peak metal temperature in the cure oven | 180 to 210 degrees Celsius | in-house, travelling thermocouple on the web |
| Adhesion of the cured lacquer | Cross-cut classification 0 to 1 on foil of 50 micron and above and on laminate; no removal on tape pull or mandrel bend on thinner gauges | ISO 2409; in-house tape pull and mandrel bend |
| Formability | No cracking at the draw radius or corners at the draw ratio agreed by trial | customer or supplier protocol, forming trial on the actual cavity |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roll coated on a web coating line, oven cured |
| Substrate and surface preparation | Aluminium foil 40 to 200 micron, cold-form blister foil web or foil and polyamide composite. Clean, dry, fully annealed foil; confirm the residual rolling oil level on incoming coils and prime with Arcfoil PR 110 where oil level, temper or a laminate face makes direct adhesion unreliable |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; if reduction is needed, use only the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade and recheck supply viscosity and solids |
| Applied dry coat weight | 3 to 6 g/m2, checked gravimetrically across the full web width |
| Cure | Peak metal temperature 180 to 210 degrees Celsius; avoid over-cure, which embrittles the film and reduces the draw available |
| Forming | Form the actual cavity at the actual draw ratio and inspect the radius and corners for microcracking before release |
| Next step | Overprint where required, then form on a cold-forming or deep-drawing press |
Process. Roll coated on a web coating line and oven cured; formed on a cold-forming or deep-drawing press, with the draw ratio confirmed by trial.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original containers, kept closed, in a cool, dry, covered area out of direct sunlight and within the temperature range given on the label. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
