Arcfoil HS 330 Polyester Heat-Seal Lacquer
A heat-seal lacquer for foil lids sealing to PET, APET and CPET trays and pots, including hot-filled packs. It is formulated for a strong permanent seal at elevated jaw temperature and for seal integrity while the pack is still warm.

1. Product description
A heat-seal lacquer for foil lids sealing to PET, APET and CPET trays and pots, including packs that are hot filled. It is the highest performance grade in the HS family, formulated for a strong permanent seal at elevated jaw temperature and for seal integrity while the pack is still warm. Where the tray is reheated in a conventional oven, state the oven temperature and whether the lid is removed before reheating, because that stage runs far above any sealing temperature and decides the grade.
2. Features
- Permanent seal to PET, APET and CPET trays and pots
- Holds seal integrity on hot-filled packs while still warm
- Formulated for elevated jaw temperature on tray sealers
- Where the tray is oven reheated, the oven temperature and lid removal practice are stated at enquiry
3. Recommended uses
Lids for polyester trays and pots, including hot-filled packs, sealed on tray sealers and thermoform-fill-seal lines.
Substrates. Aluminium foil 30 to 50 micron, hard and semi-hard temper; foil and PET laminate; foil and paper board laminate.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne saturated copolyester heat-seal lacquer | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear to slightly hazy liquid | visual |
| Carrier | Organic solvent blend | formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 25 to 40 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Supply viscosity, ISO flow cup 4 mm at 23 degrees Celsius | 25 to 50 s | ISO 2431 |
| Dry coat weight applied | 5 to 8 g/m2 | in-house, gravimetric |
| Peak metal temperature in the cure oven | 170 to 200 degrees Celsius | in-house, travelling thermocouple on the web |
| Sealing initiation temperature | 150 to 180 degrees Celsius | seals made to ASTM F2029, strength measured to ASTM F88 |
| Seal strength, web to web | 10 to 15 N per 15 mm, permanent seal, window agreed per pack | ASTM F88 |
| Adhesion of the cured lacquer | No removal on tape pull or after a bend over a mandrel; cross-cut classification 0 to 1 on laminate and on 50 micron foil | in-house tape pull and mandrel bend; ISO 2409 on foil laminate and on foil of 50 micron |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roll coated on a web coating line, oven cured |
| Substrate and surface preparation | Aluminium foil 30 to 50 micron, hard or semi-hard temper, foil and PET laminate or foil and paper board laminate. Clean, dry foil with the residual rolling oil level confirmed on incoming coils; hard and semi-hard foil is degreased rather than fully annealed, so confirm direct adhesion by trial and prime with Arcfoil PR 110 where the temper, the oil level or a laminate face makes it unreliable |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; if reduction is needed, use only the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade and recheck supply viscosity and solids |
| Applied dry coat weight | 5 to 8 g/m2, checked gravimetrically across the full web width |
| Cure | Peak metal temperature 170 to 200 degrees Celsius, measured with a travelling thermocouple on the web |
| Sealing conditions | Jaw 180 to 220 degrees Celsius, 0.3 to 0.5 MPa, dwell 1.0 to 2.0 s, confirmed on the tray sealer with the actual fill temperature |
| Next step | Seal to PET, APET or CPET only; qualify any consumer reheating stage separately, since it runs above the sealing temperature and decides the grade |
Process. Roll coated on a web coating line and oven cured; sealed on a tray sealer or a thermoform-fill-seal line.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original containers, kept closed, in a cool, dry, covered area out of direct sunlight and within the temperature range given on the label. Shelf life is stated on the label and on the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
