Arcweb TT 220 Laser-Imprintable Coating

A coating that forms a legible dark mark when struck by a laser marking unit on the filling line, so date and batch data can be applied without a ribbon or other consumable. The image forms in the coating itself, and mark contrast is set during qualification on the customer's marking unit.

1. Product description

A coating that develops a legible dark mark when struck by a laser marking unit on the filling line, so that date and batch data can be applied without a ribbon or a consumable. It is matched to the marking process by wavelength and by energy density, and the mark contrast is set during qualification on the customer’s marking unit. It differs from TT 110 in that the image is formed in the coating itself rather than transferred onto it.

2. Features

  • Dark mark formed in the coating by the line's laser, with no ribbon or consumable
  • Matched to the marking process by wavelength and energy density
  • Mark contrast set on the customer's marking unit during qualification
  • Usable on sleeve film where the line marks after sleeving

3. Recommended uses

Date, batch and traceability coding applied by laser on the filling line, on coated paper, PP and PET label face stock and on sleeve film marked after sleeving.

Substrates. Coated paper, PP and PET face stock, and sleeve film where the line marks after sleeving

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodFlexo or gravure in line, narrow-web
Surface preparationCorona treat filmic face stock and sleeve film in line at the time of coating, and check wetting tension before the run
DilutionSupplied ready for use; adjust only with small additions of water where needed
Applied dry coat weight1.5 to 2.5 g/m²
DryingHot air; on sleeve film, keep the web cool enough that the film does not begin to shrink on press
MarkingDownstream laser marking on the filling line, after sleeving where sleeve film is used; wavelength and energy density are set during qualification so that the mark develops fully without perforating, blistering or distorting the sleeve film or face stock
QualificationMark contrast and legibility are confirmed on the customer's marking unit before release

Process. Flexo or gravure, narrow-web; downstream laser marking, qualified by wavelength and energy density

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed container at 5 to 30 °C, protected from frost and direct sunlight, and stir gently before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
