Arcweb TT 110 Thermal-Transfer Receptive Coating

A receptive coating that lets a preprinted label take variable data from a thermal-transfer ribbon at the packing station, anchoring the image so the code stays dense and sharp and does not smudge under later abrasion. It is matched to wax-resin and resin ribbons on paper and filmic face stock.

1. Product description

A receptive coating that lets a preprinted label take variable data from a thermal-transfer ribbon at the packing station, anchoring the transferred image so the code stays dense and sharp and does not smudge under later abrasion. It is tuned to the anchorage of wax-resin and resin ribbons on filmic and paper face stock, where an ordinary gloss varnish gives voids, ribbon sticking and an image that lifts. It is the print-receptive grade of the subfamily, used for barcodes, batch codes and weigh-price data.

2. Features

  • Anchors wax-resin and resin ribbon images on paper and filmic face stock
  • Avoids the voids, ribbon sticking and image lift seen over an ordinary gloss varnish
  • Keeps barcodes and batch codes dense and sharp under later abrasion
  • Supplied for water-based or UV flexo presses

3. Recommended uses

Labels that receive variable data at the packing station, including barcodes, batch codes and weigh-price data, on coated paper, PP and PET face stock.

Substrates. Coated paper and filmic face stock, PP and PET

Rub and scuff resistance200 to 400 cycles under a 2 lb, 0.91 kg, weight without pick or removal of the coated film; rub resistance of the transferred image depends on the ribbon grade and is confirmed on the customer's ribbonASTM D5264 (coated film); customer or supplier protocol (transferred image)

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodFlexo, narrow-web, using the water-based or UV version to suit the press
Surface preparationCorona treat PP and PET face stock in line at the time of coating rather than relying on treatment from film manufacture; confirm wetting tension to ISO 8296 against the converter's standard
DilutionUV version supplied ready for use and not diluted; water-based version adjusted only with small additions of water where needed
Applied dry coat weight1.0 to 2.0 g/m²
Drying or cureWater-based version dried with hot air and IR; UV version cured by mercury or UV LED lamps. For the UV version, state the lamp type, and for UV LED the peak wavelength, when ordering, because the photoinitiator package is matched to the lamp; confirm surface cure at the die on the lamp in use.
ImprintingThermal-transfer printer at the packing station with a wax-resin or resin ribbon; set printhead energy and print speed on the qualified ribbon
QualificationImage density and barcode grade are confirmed on the customer's printer and ribbon before release

Process. Flexo, water-based or UV, narrow-web; imprinting by thermal-transfer printer with wax-resin or resin ribbon

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed container at 5 to 25 °C, away from direct sunlight; keep the water-based version clear of frost and the UV version away from UV light sources. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
