Arcprime WB 110 White Basecoat for Film and Metal

An opaque white basecoat that puts a printable white ground on a substrate that is not white, so that a CMYK digital image reproduces to the intended colour. It is pigmented for opacity at a practical coat weight and finished so that the digital process can image directly onto it without a further primer.

1. Product description

An opaque white basecoat that puts a printable white ground on a substrate that is not white, so that a CMYK digital image reproduces to the intended colour instead of being shifted by the substrate beneath it. It is pigmented for opacity at a practical coat weight and finished so that the digital process can image directly onto it without a further primer. It is the highest film build product in the Arcprime range and the highest in non-volatile content.

2. Features

  • Opaque white ground so that the digital image is not shifted in colour by the substrate
  • Pigmented for opacity at a practical coat weight
  • Surface finished so that the digital process can image directly onto it
  • Heavier film build than the other Arcprime grades, at 4 to 12 g/m², and higher non-volatile content than the water-based grades, at 45 to 60 per cent by weight
  • Hot-air dried on film and stoved on metal

3. Recommended uses

White grounding of clear and metallised PET, BOPP and PE film, aluminium foil and foil laminates, tinplate and aluminium sheet, and coloured synthetic stocks ahead of digital printing. Typical work includes digitally printed flexible packaging, labels and decorated metal where the substrate is clear, metallic or coloured.

Substrates. Clear and metallised PET, BOPP and PE film, aluminium foil and foil laminates, tinplate and aluminium sheet, and coloured synthetic stocks.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodGravure or roller coater for film; roller coater for sheet and coil metal; offline
Surface preparationCorona or flame treat film immediately before coating and check wetting tension with test inks; foil free of rolling oil; aluminium sheet and coil cleaned and conversion pretreated as for coil coating; tinplate coated as supplied with its standard mill passivation and lubricant film
DilutionSupplied ready for use. Adjust only with the diluent and within the limit stated on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet
Applied dry coat weight4 to 12 g/m² in total; two passes are normal where a high contrast ratio is required
Drying or stovingHot air on film; on metal, stoving in an oven to the peak metal temperature confirmed for the grade supplied
Next stepCool fully before the digital image, or a primer where the trial calls for one, goes on top

Process. Gravure or roller coater for film, roller coater for sheet and coil metal. Offline. Two passes are normal where a high contrast ratio is required. Hot-air drying on film, and stoving to a defined peak metal temperature in an oven on metal.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the closed original container at ambient temperature, clear of frost and direct sunlight. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
