Arcprime LP 110 Liquid Toner Primer for Paper and Board
A thin water-based primer that raises and evens out the surface energy of paper and board so that a liquid electrophotographic ink film transfers cleanly at the nip and holds once it has cooled. It is the low film build grade of the Arcprime LP subfamily, formulated for absorbent, cellulose-based surfaces.

1. Product description
A thin water-based primer that raises and evens out the surface energy of paper and board so that a liquid electrophotographic ink film transfers cleanly at the nip and holds once it has cooled. It is the low film build option in the subfamily, laid down at a coat weight that does not close the sheet or change its feel. Compared with Arcprime LP 130 it is formulated for absorbent, cellulose-based surfaces rather than for closed synthetic ones.
2. Features
- Raises and evens out surface energy across the sheet for clean transfer of the liquid toner film
- Low coat weight that does not close the sheet or change its feel
- Formulated for absorbent, cellulose-based stocks rather than closed synthetic ones
- Runs inline on a press-mounted coating unit or offline on a coating machine
3. Recommended uses
Priming coated and uncoated papers, folding boxboard, cast-coated board, kraft liners and recycled board ahead of liquid electrophotographic printing. Typical work includes short-run folding cartons, labels and commercial print on paper and board.
Substrates. Coated and uncoated papers, folding boxboard, cast-coated board, kraft liners and recycled board.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based polymer dispersion primer | Formulation |
| Appearance | Milky to translucent liquid, drying to a clear, colourless film | Visual |
| Carrier | Water | Formulation |
| Non-volatile matter | 25 to 35 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time at 23 °C | 30 to 60 s | ISO 2431, ISO flow cup No. 4, 4 mm orifice |
| Density at 23 °C | 1.00 to 1.08 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1, pycnometer |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.8 to 1.5 g/m² | ISO 2808, gravimetric determination |
| Wetting tension of the primed surface | 38 to 46 mN/m, comparative reading only on paper and board | Test inks used as a comparative check, customer or supplier protocol (ISO 8296 applies to plastics film, not to absorbent paper and board) |
| Adhesion of the transferred image over the primer | Assessed by tape pull on the printed image, run the same way each time | Tape pull on the printed area against a retained reference, customer or supplier protocol (ISO 2409 cross-cut is not valid on paper and board) |
| Block resistance, 30 min at 50 °C under the specified load | Rating 8 to 10 | ASTM D4946 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Flexographic anilox, gravure or roller coater, inline on a press-mounted coating unit or offline on a coating machine |
| Surface preparation | Stock clean, dry and free of dust, conditioned to the pressroom temperature and humidity |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use. Adjust only with water, within the limit stated on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.8 to 1.5 g/m², set by anilox volume and cell geometry; a change of anilox is the first check when coverage moves |
| Drying | Hot air or infrared, with enough capacity to remove the water completely at line speed; residual moisture impairs transfer and raises the risk of blocking |
| Next step | Condition the primed stock to pressroom conditions before printing; grade and coat weight are confirmed by a trial on the customer's own press and substrate |
Process. Flexographic anilox, gravure or roller coater, inline on a press-mounted coating unit or offline on a coating machine. Hot-air or infrared drying.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed original container at ambient temperature, clear of frost and direct sunlight; the product must not be allowed to freeze. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
