Arcprime IJ 130 UV Inkjet Receptive Primer
A UV-curable receptive primer for UV inkjet on closed, non-absorbent surfaces, where drop spread has to be controlled by surface chemistry alone. It cures to a hard, chemically anchored layer that the UV ink drop wets to a defined dot without adjacent drops running together.

1. Product description
A UV-curable receptive primer for UV inkjet on closed, non-absorbent surfaces, where the drop cannot be absorbed at all and spread has to be controlled by surface chemistry alone. It cures to a hard, chemically anchored layer that the UV ink drop wets to a defined dot without adjacent drops running together. Unlike Arcprime IJ 110 it does not absorb the carrier, so it is specified where the substrate cannot be allowed to take anything up.
2. Features
- Controls drop spread on closed surfaces by surface chemistry rather than absorption
- Cures to a hard, chemically anchored layer
- UV ink drops wet to a defined dot without adjacent drops running together
- Takes up no carrier, for substrates that cannot be allowed to absorb anything
- Runs inline or offline on anilox, offset coater or roller coater with UV cure
3. Recommended uses
Priming PET, BOPP and PVC film, synthetic paper, metallised film, coated and varnished board and treated aluminium foil laminates for UV inkjet. Typical work includes labels, flexible packaging and decorated board printed by UV inkjet on non-absorbent stock.
Substrates. PET, BOPP and PVC film, synthetic paper, metallised film, coated and varnished board, treated aluminium foil laminates.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | UV-curable receptive primer, no added carrier | Formulation |
| Appearance | Clear, low colour liquid, curing to a hard, clear layer | Visual |
| Carrier | None; UV-curable system | Formulation |
| Non-volatile matter | 96 to 100 per cent by weight | ASTM D5403, volatile content of radiation curable materials, determined on the cured film |
| Viscosity at 25 °C | 250 to 1200 mPa·s, set to the application method | ISO 3219-2, rotational viscometer at a defined shear rate |
| Density at 25 °C | 1.05 to 1.20 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1, pycnometer |
| Applied dry coat weight | 3.0 to 4.5 g/m² | ISO 2808, gravimetric determination |
| Wetting tension of the cured primer surface | 38 to 46 mN/m | Test inks to ISO 8296; surface free energy, where required, by contact angle to ASTM D7490 |
| Adhesion of the cured inkjet image over the primer, on film | Cross-cut classification 0 to 1 where the blade can cut the coating without cutting through the base; on thinner film, judged by tape pull on the printed area against a retained reference | ISO 2409; tape pull to ASTM F2252/F2252M on thin film |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | UV flexographic anilox, offset coater or roller coater, inline or offline |
| Surface preparation | Corona or flame treat film immediately before coating and check wetting tension with test inks; foil laminates free of rolling oil; board clean and dry |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; not thinned |
| Applied dry coat weight | 3.0 to 4.5 g/m², set by anilox volume or coater setting |
| Cure | UV, with the lamp type (medium-pressure mercury or LED) matched to the grade supplied, at the lamp output and dose set in the customer press trial; check through-cure by solvent rub to ASTM D5402 before imaging |
| Next step | UV inkjet imaging on the cured primer; the customer press trial also sets tone value increase, and image adhesion is confirmed by cross-cut, or by tape pull on film too thin to cross-cut |
Process. UV flexographic anilox, offset coater or roller coater with UV cure, inline or offline. Customer press trial required to set tone value increase and cure conditions.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed original opaque container, away from light, heat sources and frost. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
