Arcprime DT 110 Dry Toner Primer
A primer for dry-toner electrophotographic printing, where the toner is fused by heat and pressure at the fuser nip. The glass transition and softening point of the binder are set above the surface temperature the stock reaches at the fuser, so the coating promotes toner adhesion without softening, sticking to the fuser or picking in the paper path.

1. Product description
A primer for dry-toner electrophotographic printing, where the toner is fused by heat and pressure at the fuser nip rather than carried in a liquid. The glass transition and softening point of the binder are set above the surface temperature the stock reaches at the fuser, so the coating promotes toner adhesion without softening, sticking to the fuser or picking in the paper path. It is the only Arcprime grade specified for thermally fused dry toner.
2. Features
- Promotes adhesion of thermally fused dry toner
- Binder glass transition and softening point set above the stock surface temperature at the fuser
- Resists softening, sticking to the fuser and picking in the paper path
- The only Arcprime grade specified for thermally fused dry toner
3. Recommended uses
Priming coated and uncoated paper and board, synthetic paper, label facestocks and pre-printed sheets that are to receive a dry-toner overprint. Typical work includes short-run and personalised print, labels and overprinting of variable data on offset-printed sheets.
Substrates. Coated and uncoated paper and board, synthetic paper, label facestocks and pre-printed sheets intended for a dry-toner overprint.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based polymer dispersion primer with a thermally stable binder | Formulation |
| Appearance | Milky to translucent liquid, drying to a clear, colourless film | Visual |
| Carrier | Water | Formulation |
| Non-volatile matter | 25 to 42 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time at 23 °C | 30 to 60 s | ISO 2431, ISO flow cup No. 4, 4 mm orifice |
| Density at 23 °C | 1.00 to 1.08 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1, pycnometer |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.8 to 3.0 g/m² | ISO 2808, gravimetric determination |
| Binder glass transition and softening point | Above the stock surface temperature reached at the customer's fuser | Glass transition by differential scanning calorimetry to ISO 11357-2; fuser behaviour confirmed in the customer press trial |
| Adhesion of the fused toner over the primer | Tape pull on the printed image on paper and board; cross-cut classification 0 to 1 on synthetic paper where the blade does not cut through the base | Customer or supplier protocol on paper and board; ISO 2409 on synthetic paper |
| Block resistance, 30 min at 50 °C under the specified load | Rating 8 to 10 | ASTM D4946 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roller coater or flexographic anilox, offline, on sheet or reel |
| Surface preparation | Stock clean, dry and free of dust; pre-printed sheets fully dried before priming |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use. Adjust only with water, within the limit stated on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet |
| Applied dry coat weight | 0.8 to 3.0 g/m²; a film laid too thick closes the surface and raises the risk of blocking |
| Drying | Hot air to complete removal of the water, then full cooling to ambient before stacking or rewinding, because warm stacked sheets are the usual cause of blocking |
| Next step | Condition the primed stock to pressroom conditions before dry-toner printing; fuser behaviour is confirmed in a trial on the customer's own press |
Process. Roller coater or flexographic anilox, offline, on sheet or reel. Hot-air drying and full cooling before stacking, because warm stacked sheets are the usual cause of blocking.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed original container at ambient temperature, clear of frost and direct sunlight; the product must not be allowed to freeze. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
