Arcprime IJ 110 Water-Based Inkjet Receptive Primer
A water-based receptive coating for aqueous dye and pigment inkjet, built around the balance between absorption and hold-out. Its pigment and binder system takes the carrier away quickly while pinning the colourant near the surface, to keep tone value increase controlled and optical density high.

1. Product description
A water-based receptive coating for aqueous dye and pigment inkjet, built around the balance between absorption and hold-out. The pigment and binder system is chosen to take the carrier away quickly while pinning the colourant near the surface, which is what keeps tone value increase controlled and optical density high. It is the grade for absorbent and semi-absorbent stocks, where the risk is feathering along the fibre and colour sinking into the sheet.
2. Features
- Balances absorption of the ink carrier against hold-out of the colourant
- Controls feathering along the fibre and colour sinking into the sheet
- Supports control of tone value increase and optical density
- Applied at a higher coat weight than a liquid toner primer, to hold the carrier volume
3. Recommended uses
Receptive coating of uncoated and coated papers, board, label facestocks and recycled grades intended for aqueous dye or pigment inkjet. Typical work includes inkjet-printed cartons, labels, commercial print and variable data work on absorbent or semi-absorbent stock.
Substrates. Uncoated and coated papers, board, label facestocks and recycled grades intended for aqueous inkjet.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based pigmented receptive coating, pigment in a polymeric binder | Formulation |
| Appearance | White to off-white pigmented liquid | Visual |
| Carrier | Water | Formulation |
| Non-volatile matter | 30 to 42 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time at 23 °C | 30 to 60 s | ISO 2431, ISO flow cup No. 4, 4 mm orifice |
| Density at 23 °C | 1.05 to 1.30 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1, pycnometer |
| Applied dry coat weight | 3.0 to 6.0 g/m² | ISO 2808, gravimetric determination |
| Optical density and tone value increase of the inkjet print | Set against the job requirement on the customer's own equipment, then held | Reflection densitometry to ISO 5-3 and ISO 5-4 on the printed job, customer or supplier protocol |
| Adhesion of the inkjet image over the primer, paper and board | Assessed by tape pull on the printed image, run the same way each time | Tape pull on the printed area against a retained reference, customer or supplier protocol (ISO 2409 cross-cut is not valid on paper and board) |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roller coater, gravure or air knife, offline |
| Surface preparation | Stock clean, dry and free of dust, conditioned to the pressroom temperature and humidity |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use. Adjust only with water, within the limit stated on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet |
| Applied dry coat weight | 3.0 to 6.0 g/m²; the target is established against drop volume, drop spacing and ink chemistry on the customer's own equipment and then held |
| Drying | Hot air, with enough capacity to remove the water completely at line speed |
| Process control | After the target is set, treat the coater setting (roller gap and speed ratio, gravure cylinder or air-knife pressure), drying profile and substrate lot as controlled variables, since each moves the print result |
Process. Roller coater, gravure or air knife, offline. Hot-air drying. Applied at higher coat weight than a liquid toner primer because the layer has to hold the carrier volume.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed original container at ambient temperature, clear of frost and direct sunlight; the product must not be allowed to freeze. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
