Arcprime LP 130 Liquid Toner Primer for Film and Metallised Stock
A higher film build water-based primer for filmic, synthetic and metallised substrates, where a liquid toner film has nothing to key into. It combines a wetting system that lays down evenly on low surface energy plastics with a binder chosen to anchor the transferred ink film.

1. Product description
A higher film build primer for substrates where a liquid toner film has nothing to key into at all, including filmic, synthetic and metallised surfaces. It combines a wetting system that lays down evenly on low surface energy plastics with a binder chosen to anchor the transferred ink film. It is the grade to specify when the stock is non-absorbent, which is where Arcprime LP 110 reaches its limit.
2. Features
- Wetting system that lays down evenly on low surface energy plastics
- Binder chosen to anchor the transferred liquid toner film on non-absorbent stock
- Higher film build than Arcprime LP 110, for closed surfaces
- Applied offline with corona treatment immediately before coating
3. Recommended uses
Priming BOPP, PET, PE and PVC films, synthetic paper, metallised paper and film, and pre-laminated or varnished board for liquid electrophotographic printing. Typical work includes flexible packaging, labels and sleeves printed digitally on filmic stock.
Substrates. BOPP, PET, PE and PVC films, synthetic paper, metallised paper and metallised film, pre-laminated and varnished board.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based polymer dispersion primer with a wetting system for low surface energy films | Formulation |
| Appearance | Milky to translucent liquid, drying to a clear, colourless film | Visual |
| Carrier | Water | Formulation |
| Non-volatile matter | 30 to 42 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time at 23 °C | 30 to 60 s | ISO 2431, ISO flow cup No. 4, 4 mm orifice |
| Density at 23 °C | 1.00 to 1.08 g/cm³ | ISO 2811-1, pycnometer |
| Applied dry coat weight | 1.5 to 3.0 g/m² | ISO 2808, gravimetric determination |
| Wetting tension of the primed surface | 38 to 46 mN/m | Test inks to ISO 8296; surface free energy, where required, by contact angle to ASTM D7490 |
| Adhesion of the transferred image over the primer, on film | Cross-cut classification 0 to 1 where the blade can cut the coating without cutting through the base; on thinner film, judged by tape pull on the printed area against a retained reference | ISO 2409; tape pull to ASTM F2252/F2252M on thin film |
| Block resistance, 30 min at 50 °C under the specified load | Rating 8 to 10 | ASTM D4946 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Gravure or flexographic anilox, offline |
| Surface preparation | Corona treat the film immediately before coating and measure wetting tension with test inks before coating; treatment applied at the film plant decays in storage and is not relied on |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use. Adjust only with water, within the limit stated on the confirmed Technical Data Sheet |
| Applied dry coat weight | 1.5 to 3.0 g/m², set by anilox volume or gravure cylinder engraving |
| Drying | Hot air with web tension control, keeping web temperature below the point at which the film stretches or shrinks, to complete removal of the water at line speed; cool before rewinding |
| Next step | Condition the primed reel to pressroom conditions before printing; confirm image adhesion by cross-cut, or by tape pull on film too thin to cross-cut, after a trial on the customer's own press and film |
Process. Gravure or flexographic anilox application offline, with corona treatment of the film immediately before coating. Hot-air drying with tension control.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the closed original container at ambient temperature, clear of frost and direct sunlight; the product must not be allowed to freeze. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling information is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
