Arcterra CM 510 Cab and Panel Finish

A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane finish on a short schedule for cab shells, doors, panels, mudguards, steps and small parts sprayed on jigs or racks. It is handleable quickly at ambient and reaches full properties under a moderate force dry, with colour and sheen matched to the Arcterra PU topcoat on the machine.

1. Product description

A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane finish on a short schedule for cab shells, doors, panels, mudguards, steps and small parts sprayed on jigs or racks away from the main fabrication line. It is formulated to be handleable quickly at ambient and to reach full properties under a moderate force dry, so a jig line can be turned round within a shift without a high bake. Colour and sheen are matched to the Arcterra PU topcoat on the machine, so a cab built on a separate route arrives in the same colour as the chassis it is fitted to.

2. Features

  • Short schedule for jig and rack lines within a shift
  • Force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min, no high bake
  • Colour and sheen matched to the Arcterra PU topcoat
  • Suited to conventional air, HVLP or electrostatic spray

3. Recommended uses

Cabs, doors, panels, mudguards, steps and small parts painted on a separate route from the main fabrication line, so that they arrive in the same colour as the chassis they are fitted to.

Substrates. Arcterra EP 210 primed steel, phosphated or otherwise pretreated sheet, and abraded sound existing coatings on bought-in components.

4. Typical properties

PropertyTypical valueMethod
TechnologySolvent-borne two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane with aliphatic isocyanate hardenerFormulation
ColourMatched to the Arcterra PU topcoat on the machine; agreed on a sprayed panel at production glossISO 3668 visual comparison; instrumental to ISO/CIE 11664-4 where agreed
Specular gloss at 60°Matched to the machine topcoat: high gloss 85 GU and above, or satin 30 to 50 GUISO 2813
Dry film thickness40 to 70 µmISO 2808
Pot life of mixed material at 25 °CTypically 2 to 6 h, shortening sharply as temperature risesISO 9514
Drying and cureThrough-dry in 16 to 24 h at 20 to 25 °C, full properties in 5 to 7 days; force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 minISO 9117-1 for through-dry; full properties and force-dry schedule to customer or supplier protocol
Cross-cut adhesionClass 0 to 1 on prepared steel and between coats within the recoat intervalISO 2409
Accelerated weathering, gloss retentionTypically specified to retain 60 per cent or more of initial gloss after 1000 h xenon arc exposureISO 16474-2 for exposure, ISO 2813 for gloss, ISO 4628-6 for chalking

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
MethodConventional air, HVLP or electrostatic spray on jigs or racks; substrate held at least 3 °C above dew point through application and flash-off
SubstrateArcterra EP 210 primed steel, phosphated or otherwise pretreated sheet, and abraded sound existing coatings on bought-in components
Mixing and thinningBase and hardener mixed in the ratio stated on the label and stirred mechanically before use. Thin only where needed and only with the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade. For electrostatic application, the resistivity of the mixed material is adjusted into the range required by the equipment, using only the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade.
Applied film40 to 70 µm dry
CureAmbient at 20 to 25 °C, or force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min after an ambient flash-off, with the time counted once the part is at temperature; heavy plate sections take longer to reach it than the bay air
Colour approvalColour match agreed on a sprayed panel at production gloss before the first batch
SafetyHandling and personal protection as set out in the Safety Data Sheet, issued by Arctic on request.

Process. Conventional air, HVLP or electrostatic spray at 40 to 70 µm dry. Ambient cure at 20 to 25 °C or force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 minutes. Colour match agreed on a sprayed panel at production gloss before the first batch.

6. Storage and handling

Store base and hardener in their original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered store away from direct heat and sunlight, within the temperature range on the label, and keep hardener containers sealed against moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
