Arcterra PU 320 High Gloss Polyurethane Topcoat
A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane topcoat in high gloss, supplied in fleet colours matched from a customer sample or colour standard. The aliphatic isocyanate hardener provides the exterior colour and gloss retention of the system.

1. Product description
A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane topcoat in high gloss, supplied in fleet colours matched from a customer sample or colour standard. The aliphatic isocyanate hardener is what gives the exterior durability: aromatic hardeners yellow and chalk, so the exterior topcoat is built on aliphatic chemistry and the epoxy stays below it. High gloss reads the surface underneath it exactly, so the grade suits pressed panels, cab skins and parts that have been flatted, rather than raw welded plate.
2. Features
- Aliphatic acrylic polyurethane for exterior colour and gloss retention
- High gloss, 85 GU and above at 60°
- Fleet colours matched from a sample or colour standard
- Ambient cure or force dry at 60 to 80 °C
3. Recommended uses
Final coat on pressed panels, cab skins and flatted parts of agricultural, construction and earthmoving machines, applied over Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260. High gloss shows the surface beneath it, so raw welded plate is better served by Arcterra PU 360.
Substrates. Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 primed and prepared steel. Recoat and overcoating intervals are set per system.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane with aliphatic isocyanate hardener | Formulation |
| Colour | Fleet colours matched from a customer sample or colour standard; tolerance agreed at approval | ISO 3668 visual comparison; instrumental to ISO/CIE 11664-4 where agreed |
| Specular gloss at 60° | 85 GU and above | ISO 2813 |
| Dry film thickness per coat | 50 to 70 µm | ISO 2808 |
| Pot life of mixed material at 25 °C | Typically 2 to 6 h, shortening sharply as temperature rises | ISO 9514 |
| Drying and cure | Through-dry in 16 to 24 h at 20 to 25 °C, full properties in 5 to 7 days; force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min | ISO 9117-1 for through-dry; full properties and force-dry schedule to customer or supplier protocol |
| Accelerated weathering, gloss retention | Typically specified to retain 60 per cent or more of initial gloss after 1000 h xenon arc exposure | ISO 16474-2 for exposure, ISO 2813 for gloss, ISO 4628-6 for chalking |
| Cross-cut adhesion, intercoat | Class 0 to 1 to Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 within the recoat interval, on total films up to 250 µm, which is the limit of the method; the finished three-coat build is checked by pull-off to ISO 4624 | ISO 2409 |
| Flexibility, cylindrical mandrel bend | No cracking or detachment at a 5 to 10 mm mandrel for the surfacer and topcoat build on sheet | ISO 1519 |
| Neutral salt spray, as part of a full primer, surfacer and topcoat build | 480 to 1000 h exposure band, assessed for scribe undercutting and blistering; ranks systems and checks consistency, not a prediction of years in service | ISO 9227 for exposure, ISO 4628-8 for scribe undercutting, ISO 4628-2 for blistering |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Method | Conventional air, HVLP or airless spray; substrate held at least 3 °C above dew point through application and flash-off |
| Substrate | Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 primed and prepared steel, flatted where a high gloss appearance is required; recoat and overcoating intervals set per system |
| Mixing and thinning | Base and hardener mixed in the ratio stated on the label and stirred mechanically before use. Thin only where needed and only with the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade. |
| Applied film | 50 to 70 µm dry |
| Cure | Ambient at 20 to 25 °C, through-dry in 16 to 24 h and full properties in 5 to 7 days; or force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min after an ambient flash-off, with the time counted once the part is at temperature; heavy plate sections take longer to reach it than the bay air |
| Colour approval | Colour agreed against the customer sample or standard on a sprayed panel before the first batch |
| Safety | Handling and personal protection as set out in the Safety Data Sheet, issued by Arctic on request. |
Process. Conventional air, HVLP or airless spray at 50 to 70 µm dry. Ambient cure at 20 to 25 °C or force dry at 60 to 80 °C. Supplied-air respiratory protection and trained operators for all isocyanate-hardened materials.
6. Storage and handling
Store base and hardener in their original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered store away from direct heat and sunlight, within the temperature range on the label, and keep hardener containers sealed against moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
