Arcterra PU 360 High-Build Satin Polyurethane Topcoat
A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane topcoat at satin sheen, formulated to build more film per pass than Arcterra PU 320 and to hold an even appearance on vertical plate without sagging. The satin film does not pick out weld texture, plate distortion and rolling ripple as high gloss does.

1. Product description
A two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane topcoat at satin sheen, formulated to build more film per pass than PU 320 and to hold an even appearance on vertical plate without sagging. The lower sheen is the point of the grade: a satin film does not pick out weld texture, plate distortion and rolling ripple the way high gloss does, so it suits large welded structures, booms, chassis and covers that are not flatted before painting. Ultraviolet durability comes from the same aliphatic chemistry as PU 320, so choosing satin is an appearance decision and not a durability compromise.
2. Features
- Satin sheen, 30 to 50 GU at 60°
- Applied at 60 to 90 µm dry per pass
- Holds an even film on vertical plate
- Same aliphatic chemistry and exterior durability as PU 320
- Sheen agreed on a sprayed panel at production film build
3. Recommended uses
Topcoat for large welded structures, booms, chassis and covers that are not flatted before painting, and for matching sheen across a machine that also carries Arcterra CM coated components.
Substrates. Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 primed steel, and Arcterra CM coated components after washing and abrading, where a matched sheen is required across the machine.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Solvent-borne two-pack aliphatic acrylic polyurethane with aliphatic isocyanate hardener | Formulation |
| Colour | Fleet colours matched from a customer sample or colour standard; tolerance agreed at approval | ISO 3668 visual comparison; instrumental to ISO/CIE 11664-4 where agreed |
| Specular gloss at 60° | Satin, 30 to 50 GU, agreed on a sprayed panel at production film build | ISO 2813 |
| Dry film thickness per coat | 60 to 90 µm | ISO 2808 |
| Sag resistance | Even film on vertical plate at production build without sagging | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Pot life of mixed material at 25 °C | Typically 2 to 6 h, shortening sharply as temperature rises | ISO 9514 |
| Drying and cure | Through-dry in 16 to 24 h at 20 to 25 °C, full properties in 5 to 7 days; force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min | ISO 9117-1 for through-dry; full properties and force-dry schedule to customer or supplier protocol |
| Accelerated weathering, gloss retention | Typically specified to retain 60 per cent or more of initial gloss after 1000 h xenon arc exposure | ISO 16474-2 for exposure, ISO 2813 for gloss, ISO 4628-6 for chalking |
| Cross-cut adhesion, intercoat | Class 0 to 1 to Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 within the recoat interval, on total films up to 250 µm, which is the limit of the method; the finished three-coat build is checked by pull-off to ISO 4624 | ISO 2409 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Method | Airless or air-assisted airless spray; substrate held at least 3 °C above dew point through application and flash-off |
| Substrate | Arcterra EP 210 or EP 260 primed steel, and Arcterra CM coated components after washing and abrading |
| Mixing and thinning | Base and hardener mixed in the ratio stated on the label and stirred mechanically before use. Thin only where needed and only with the thinner specified by Arctic for the grade. |
| Applied film | 60 to 90 µm dry |
| Cure | Ambient at 20 to 25 °C, through-dry in 16 to 24 h; or force dry at 60 to 80 °C for 20 to 40 min after an ambient flash-off, with the time counted once the part is at temperature; heavy plate sections take longer to reach it than the bay air |
| Sheen approval | Sheen agreed on a panel sprayed at production film thickness and with the production application method, since gloss reading shifts with both |
| Safety | Handling and personal protection as set out in the Safety Data Sheet, issued by Arctic on request. |
Process. Airless or air-assisted airless spray at 60 to 90 µm dry. Ambient cure or force dry at 60 to 80 °C. Sheen is agreed on a sprayed panel at production film thickness, because gloss reading shifts with build and with application method.
6. Storage and handling
Store base and hardener in their original, tightly closed containers in a cool, dry, covered store away from direct heat and sunlight, within the temperature range on the label, and keep hardener containers sealed against moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
