Arcliner PC 110 Plastic Closure Liner and Valve Compound
A PVC-free compound for polyolefin closures that seal by compression against the container finish under applied torque, also used for valve and venting elements that relieve internal pressure in a controlled way. It is processed at temperatures a PP or HDPE shell will take.

1. Product description
A PVC-free compound for plastic closures, which seal by compression against the container finish under applied torque rather than by crimping or vacuum. The same compound family is used for valve and venting elements in closures that must relieve internal pressure in a controlled way, for example on fermenting or gassing products. It is distinguished within Arcliner by being matched to polyolefin shells, which cannot be put through a plastisol gelation oven, and to the lower and more variable sealing loads of a hand-applied plastic cap.
2. Features
- PVC-free, matched to PP and HDPE shells that cannot be put through a plastisol gelation oven
- Seals by compression under application torque, including the lower and more variable loads of a hand-applied cap
- Same compound family used for valve and venting elements on fermenting or gassing products
- Compression moulded in the shell from the melt, or flowed in as a water-based compound and dried at 60 to 90 C
- Regulatory declaration issued on request against the product supplied
3. Recommended uses
PP and HDPE closures on glass, PET, HDPE and aluminium containers for beverages, dairy, edible oil and household products. Also used where a closure must vent gas from fermenting or gassing contents in a controlled way.
Substrates. PP and HDPE closure shells, sealing against glass, PET, HDPE and aluminium finishes on beverages, dairy, edible oil and household products.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | PVC-free compound: thermoplastic elastomer moulded from the melt, or water-based compound flowed and dried | Formulation |
| Appearance as supplied | Granules for melt dosing (moulding grade) or water-based flowable compound (flowed grade) | Visual |
| Hardness, Shore A, of the compound moulded or dried as a test piece under lining conditions | 35 to 65, softer grades as typical for plastic closures | ISO 868, test piece at least 4 mm thick, plied if necessary |
| Density of the formed compound | 0.88 to 1.40 g/cm3; thermoplastic elastomer grades at the lower end of the window | ISO 1183-1 |
| Melt flow rate of the moulding grade, 190 C / 2.16 kg | 8 to 40 g/10 min | ISO 1133-1 |
| Viscosity of the flowed grade, Brookfield | 8,000 to 30,000 mPa.s | ISO 2555 |
| Compression set, 22 h at 70 C | 15 to 40 % | ISO 815-1 |
| Removal torque as a proportion of application torque after conditioning | 60 to 110 %; values above 100 % are seen mainly where the pack holds a vacuum | ASTM D3198 |
| Sensory and taint rating of the packed product | 0 to 1 on the 0 to 4 scale | DIN 10955 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Lining method | Compression moulded in the shell from the melt against a cooled tool, or flowed in as a water-based compound and dried, on rotary lining equipment |
| Shell and container preparation | Clean, dry PP or HDPE shells in the surface condition agreed with the closure maker, since shell cleanliness and surface condition decide adhesion of the liner; container finishes checked for damage and out-of-round |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; not to be thinned |
| Moulding schedule | 150 to 200 C melt, with the tool held well below the melt temperature to set the gasket |
| Drying schedule, flowed grade | 60 to 90 C air, limited by distortion of the PP or HDPE shell |
| Deposit weight | Set by closure diameter and seal or valve design, and held to the tolerance agreed at trial |
| Capping | Sealed on capping heads by controlled application torque; application and removal torque targets are set by the packer and recorded |
Process. Compression moulded in the shell from the melt against a cooled tool, or flowed in as a water-based compound and dried at 60 to 90 C, on rotary lining equipment; sealed on capping heads by controlled application torque.
6. Storage and handling
Store in closed original containers in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight; protect the water-based flowed grade from frost and keep the moulding grade dry. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling guidance is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
