Arcliner CC 110 Crown Cork Liner Compound
A low-build liner compound for crimped steel crowns on carbonated beverages in glass, forming a thin seal against the top sealing surface of the crown finish as the skirt is crimped. It is the Arcliner grade selected first on sensory behaviour, for beer, sparkling water and carbonated soft drinks.

1. Product description
A low-build liner compound for crimped steel crowns sealing carbonated beverages in glass. The crown liner is shallow, so the whole seal is made by a thin layer of compound compressed against the top sealing surface of the glass crown finish as the skirt is crimped, and it has to hold carbonation pressure through the heat process and through warehouse temperature cycling. Among the Arcliner grades this is the one selected first on sensory behaviour, because beer and water expose taint before any mechanical property fails.
2. Features
- Shallow liner that seals against the top sealing surface of the glass crown finish in a single crimping stroke
- Holds carbonation pressure through tunnel pasteurisation of the filled pack and through warehouse temperature cycling
- Selected on sensory and taint behaviour, since beer and water show taint before any mechanical property fails
- Available for flow-and-gel lining as a plastisol or for in-shell moulding as a PVC-free thermoplastic elastomer
- Regulatory declaration and compliance dossier issued on request against the product supplied
3. Recommended uses
Lacquered tinplate and chromium-coated steel crown shells for beer, carbonated soft drinks and sparkling water in glass. Used on packs that are tunnel pasteurised after filling and on beverages flash pasteurised in line before filling, where the liner does not see that heat.
Substrates. Lacquered tinplate and chromium-coated steel crown shells, sealing against glass crown finishes on carbonated soft drinks, beer and sparkling water.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | PVC plastisol for flow-and-gel lining, or PVC-free thermoplastic elastomer for in-shell moulding; no volatile carrier | Formulation |
| Appearance as supplied | Opaque viscous paste (flow-and-gel grade) or granules for melt dosing (moulding grade) | Visual |
| Hardness, Shore A, of the compound gelled or moulded as a test piece under lining conditions | 55 to 80, towards the harder end of the Arcliner range | ISO 868, test piece at least 4 mm thick, plied if necessary |
| Density of the gelled or moulded compound | 0.88 to 1.40 g/cm3; thermoplastic elastomer route at the lower end, filled plastisol at the upper end | ISO 1183-1 |
| Viscosity of the flowable grade, Brookfield | 8,000 to 30,000 mPa.s | ISO 2555 |
| Melt flow rate of the moulding grade, 190 C / 2.16 kg | 8 to 40 g/10 min | ISO 1133-1 |
| Compression set, 22 h at 70 C | 15 to 40 % | ISO 815-1 |
| Liner deposit weight, 26 mm crown shell | 180 to 260 mg | in-house gravimetric |
| Heat process withstood by the lined crown | Tunnel pasteurisation of the filled pack at 60 to 72 C for 10 to 40 min according to the product, expressed by brewers in pasteurisation units; where the beverage is flash pasteurised before filling the liner does not see that heat | in-house cycle |
| Sensory and taint rating of the packed product | 0 to 1 on the 0 to 4 scale | DIN 10955 |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Lining method | Flowed into the shell and gelled in an oven, or dosed as a hot melt and moulded in the shell against a cooled tool, on rotary lining machines |
| Shell and container preparation | Clean shells with the interior lacquer in sound condition, since lacquer condition and cleanliness decide adhesion of the liner; glass crown finishes checked for chipping |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; not to be thinned |
| Deposit weight | 180 to 260 mg per 26 mm crown shell; deposit weight and its distribution are the first variables to check when a seal fails |
| Gelation or moulding schedule | Plastisol gelled at 180 to 210 C oven air, with dwell set by the oven and the shell mass; moulding grade formed at 150 to 200 C melt against a tool held well below the melt temperature |
| Crowning | Applied on crowning heads; deposit weight and crimp dimensions govern carbonation retention, and crimp settings are recorded for each run |
| Qualification | Trial fill crowned at production speed, pasteurised to the customer's cycle, then held and checked for carbonation retention, leakage and by organoleptic panel at intervals over the intended shelf life |
Process. Flowed into the shell and gelled in an oven, or moulded in the shell, on rotary lining machines; applied on crowning heads. Where the filled pack is tunnel pasteurised the liner carries the full cycle, and where the beverage is flash pasteurised in line before filling the liner does not see that heat.
6. Storage and handling
Store in closed original containers in a cool, dry place away from direct heat and sunlight; homogenise the flowable grade before use and keep the moulding grade dry. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis, and handling guidance is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
