Arcfibre BL 740 High-Bond Blister-Board Coating for RPET and PETG
A higher film build blister-board coating for recycled PET and PETG, which soften at different temperatures from virgin PET and can distort or under-bond in a window set for virgin material. It is also the grade for ultrasonic sealing and for short-dwell, high-throughput lines where BL 710 gives inconsistent fibre tear.

1. Product description
A higher film build blister-board coating formulated for recycled PET and PETG, which soften at different temperatures from virgin PET and can distort or under-bond in a window set for virgin material. It is also the grade for ultrasonic sealing and for short-dwell, high-throughput lines where BL 710 gives inconsistent fibre tear. Recycled sheet varies between lots, so a bond trial on the actual sheet and the actual sealing tool, assessed as percentage fibre tear on peel, is required before specification.
2. Features
- Formulated for RPET and PETG, and also seals to PET and PVC
- Platen heat seal or ultrasonic seal
- Higher film build for short-dwell, high-throughput lines
- Bond trial on the actual sheet and sealing tool required before specification
3. Recommended uses
Blister cards for retail packs on folding boxboard and solid bleached board, sealed to thermoformed RPET, PETG, PET or PVC blisters, including ultrasonic and high-throughput sealing lines.
Substrates. Folding boxboard and solid bleached board for blister cards, sealing to thermoformed RPET, PETG, PET and PVC blisters
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based thermoplastic heat-seal dispersion, higher film build | Formulation |
| Appearance | Milky liquid drying to a clear film | Visual assessment, supplier protocol |
| Carrier | Water | By formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 40 to 48 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time, 4 mm flow cup at 20 degrees C | 30 to 55 seconds | ISO 2431 |
| pH at 20 degrees C | 8.0 to 9.0 | ISO 976 |
| Blister card bond, assessed as fibre tear on peel | Consistent fibre tear across the seal area, assessed as percentage fibre tear on the actual sheet and sealing tool | Peel assessment on the customer sealing tool, no single international method applies |
| Sealing window | Established separately for each film type and sheet lot on the customer platen or ultrasonic sealing tool | Customer or supplier protocol |
| Blocking of coated cards in the stack | No blocking at the agreed stack height and storage temperature | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Flexo, gravure or offset coater applied over the printed card at higher coat weight |
| Surface preparation | Board grammage, moisture content and print coverage under the seal area all change the bond; hold them constant between trial and production |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; adjust viscosity with 0 to 3 per cent water by weight |
| Applied dry coat weight | 8 to 12 g per square metre, by grammage difference to ISO 536, normally in two passes; a heavy single wet film raises board moisture and curl, so a second pass is preferred to a heavier first pass |
| Drying | Hot air; cards fully dry and cooled to room temperature before stacking, as a warm heat-seal film blocks in the pile |
| Next step | Die cutting, then platen heat sealing or ultrasonic sealing; repeat the bond trial when the RPET or PETG sheet lot changes |
| Handling and safety | Refer to the Safety Data Sheet, issued by Arctic on request. |
Process. Flexo, gravure or offset coater applied at higher coat weight, hot air drying, sealed by platen heat seal or ultrasonic seal
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed container at 5 to 30 degrees C, protected from frost and direct heat, and stir gently before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
