Arcfibre OG 110 Gloss Overprint Varnish
A water-based gloss overprint varnish for inline and offline sheet-fed offset coaters, applied at low film build to give rub protection and a clean gloss. It runs at lower solids and lower coat weight than OG 140 and is chosen where press throughput and delivery-pile stability matter more than peak gloss.

1. Product description
A general-purpose water-based gloss overprint varnish for sheet-fed offset coaters, built for fast setting and clean delivery-pile behaviour on long runs. It is the working grade of the subfamily, applied at low film build to give rub protection and a clean gloss without slowing the press. Compared with OG 140 it runs at lower solids and lower coat weight, so it is the choice where throughput and pile stability matter more than peak gloss.
2. Features
- Fast setting and clean delivery-pile behaviour on long runs
- Rub protection at low film build without slowing the press
- Runs on coated and uncoated stock, including recycled-content board
- Lower solids and coat weight than OG 140 in the same subfamily
3. Recommended uses
Rub protection and gloss on commercial sheet-fed offset print and folding boxboard cartons on coated, uncoated, cast-coated and recycled-content stock. Suited to long runs where sheets must go to the pile and on to finishing without delay.
Substrates. Coated and uncoated offset paper and board, folding boxboard, cast-coated stock, recycled-content board
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Water-based acrylic dispersion gloss varnish | Formulation |
| Appearance | Milky liquid drying to a clear gloss film | Visual assessment, supplier protocol |
| Carrier | Water | By formulation |
| Non-volatile content | 30 to 38 per cent by weight | ISO 3251 |
| Flow time, 4 mm flow cup at 20 degrees C | 30 to 40 seconds | ISO 2431 |
| pH at 20 degrees C | 8.0 to 9.0 | ISO 976 |
| Gloss at 60 degrees | 55 to 80 gloss units on closed coated stock, lower on uncoated and recycled-content board | ISO 2813 |
| Dry rub resistance, Sutherland, 2 lb weight | 100 to 300 cycles without visible transfer, stock and ink dependent | ASTM D5264 |
| Delivery-pile blocking and set-off | No blocking or set-off at the agreed pile temperature and stack height | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Roller or chambered doctor blade coating unit inline after the last printing unit of a sheet-fed offset press, or an offline coater |
| Surface preparation | Inline, the varnish goes on wet over freshly printed offset ink in the same pass; heavy solids and unset ink films slow the varnish and can shift gloss and rub, so hold ink film weight constant and record it. Offline, apply once the ink has set. |
| Dilution | Supplied ready for use; adjust viscosity at the coater, not in the drum, with 0 to 5 per cent water by weight |
| Applied dry coat weight | 1.5 to 3 g per square metre, by grammage difference to ISO 536; on absorbent stock raise anilox volume rather than change product |
| Drying | IR and hot air with the air knife set for line speed; control delivery-pile temperature and stack height, as a hot pile blocks and marks even when the film is dry to the touch |
| Next step | Cutting, creasing and carton folding once the pile has cooled; keep glue flaps free of varnish unless glue adhesion over the varnish has been confirmed on trial |
| Handling and safety | Refer to the Safety Data Sheet, issued by Arctic on request. |
Process. Roller or chambered doctor blade coater inline on a sheet-fed offset press, or an offline coater, with IR and hot air drying
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed container at 5 to 30 degrees C, protected from frost and direct heat, and stir gently before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
