Arcvolt TH 430 Thermally Conductive Insulating Coating
A ceramic-filled coating applied at higher build that is electrically insulating and thermally conductive at the same time, for insulated metal panels, magnetics, bus structures and cast housings where an isolation layer sits directly in the heat path. It is specified when the insulating layer cannot be allowed to become the dominant thermal resistance.

1. Product description
It is a conduction path in series with the rest of the assembly and does not replace a heat sink, a fan or a redesigned airflow route.
2. Features
- Electrically insulating and thermally conductive in one film
- Ceramic-filled, thermal conductivity 0.5 to 2.0 W per m K
- Applied at 80 to 200 microns dry, in two passes above 120 microns
- Dielectric withstand proof tested at the minimum measured film thickness
3. Recommended uses
Insulated metal substrate panels, transformer and inductor bodies, copper bus and die-cast or machined aluminium housings where an isolation layer sits in the heat path. It is a conduction path in series with the assembly and does not replace a heat sink, a fan or a redesigned airflow route.
Substrates. Aluminium insulated metal substrate panels, die-cast and machined aluminium, steel, transformer and inductor bodies, copper bus.
4. Typical properties
| Property | Typical value | Method |
|---|---|---|
| Technology | Ceramic-filled insulating stoving coating | Formulation |
| Thermal conductivity | 0.5 to 2.0 W per m K | ASTM D5470 |
| Dielectric strength | 15 to 45 kV per mm depending on film build, stated at the measured minimum thickness | IEC 60243-1 |
| Volume resistivity | Above 1×10^14 ohm cm | ASTM D257 |
| Dry film thickness | 80 to 200 microns | ISO 2808 |
| Adhesion, pull-off | 3 to 8 MPa depending on substrate and pre-treatment, with cohesive rather than adhesive failure preferred | ISO 4624 |
| Adhesion, cross-cut | Classification 0 to 1 on the specified pre-treatment | ISO 2409 |
| Thermal cycling | 200 to 1000 cycles between minus 40 and plus 85 degrees C with no cracking, delamination or loss of insulation resistance | IEC 60068-2-14 |
| Cure window | 25 to 40 minutes at 150 to 180 degrees C metal temperature | Customer or supplier protocol |
Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.
5. Application
| Parameter | Guidance |
|---|---|
| Application method | Spray, flow coat or screen application |
| Surface preparation | Clean and degreased, with the pre-treatment specified for the substrate; edges and radii need attention because thin points there set the dielectric result |
| Applied film thickness | 80 to 200 microns dry, in two passes where build exceeds 120 microns |
| Flash off | Allow each pass to flash off before the next and before stoving, so carrier is not trapped in the thick film and does not blister in the oven |
| Cure schedule | Stove 25 to 40 minutes at 150 to 180 degrees C metal temperature |
| Proof testing | Test dielectric withstand at the minimum measured film thickness, not at the average |
| Design note | The film is a conduction path in series with the rest of the assembly and does not replace a heat sink, a fan or a redesigned airflow route |
Process. Spray, flow coat or screen application at 80 to 200 microns dry, applied in two passes where build exceeds 120 microns. Stove 25 to 40 minutes at 150 to 180 degrees C metal temperature. Dielectric withstand is proof tested at the minimum measured film thickness, not at the average, because thin points at edges and radii set the result.
6. Storage and handling
Store in the original closed containers in a cool, dry, covered area, away from direct sunlight and sources of heat. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.
7. Safety and regulatory information
Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
