Arcveil SF 110 Ultraviolet-Fluorescent Security Coating

A coating that is invisible on the printed sheet in daylight and fluoresces under a 365 nm lamp, supplied as a plain fluorescent grade or with a taggant for reader-based verification. The response is read against a defined excitation source and detector, so substrate fluorescence and the emission colour form part of the specification.

1. Product description

A coating that is invisible on the printed sheet in daylight and fluoresces under a 365 nm lamp, used for covert marks, authentication panels and taggant coding. It is supplied as a plain fluorescent grade or with a taggant for reader-based verification. What distinguishes it in this range is that the response is read against a defined excitation source and detector rather than judged by eye, so substrate fluorescence and the chosen emission colour are both part of the specification.

2. Features

  • Not visible on the printed sheet in daylight; fluoresces under 365 nm excitation
  • Plain fluorescent grade, or taggant grade for reader-based verification
  • Emission colour selected against the background fluorescence of the substrate
  • Accepted against a signed reference sheet read under the customer's own lamp or reader
  • Spot or full-sheet application by flexo, gravure or screen

3. Recommended uses

Covert marks, authentication panels and taggant coding on pharmaceutical and consumer-goods cartons and labels. The coating is an authentication aid read by lamp or detector and carries no security rating.

Substrates. Coated and uncoated paper and board, label papers and corona-treated filmic facestock. Substrates carrying optical brightening agents absorb in the same 365 nm band and emit in the blue, so they raise the background against a blue-emitting mark, and the substrate is assessed and the emission colour selected before the grade is confirmed.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
MethodFlexo, gravure or screen, applied as a spot or a full-sheet coating
Substrate assessmentSubstrate checked under 365 nm for optical brightening agents; where the blue background is high, an emission colour away from the blue is selected
Surface preparationFilmic facestock corona treated; coated and uncoated paper and board and label papers used as supplied
DilutionSupplied ready for use; adjust only with the diluent stated for the grade supplied, to the press viscosity set on the trial
Applied coat weight1.0 to 4.0 g/m2 dry, giving a dry film thickness of 1 to 4 micrometres (ISO 2808)
Drying or cureDrying route stated for the grade supplied, with conditions set on the press trial
VerificationBy 365 nm lamp or the customer's own reader, against a signed reference sheet from the trial; light exposure in distribution stated at enquiry

Process. Flexo, gravure or screen, applied as a spot or a full-sheet coating. Verification is by 365 nm lamp or by the customer’s own reader, using a signed reference sheet from the trial as the acceptance standard.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed container at moderate temperature and out of direct light, with water-based grades protected from frost; shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handling guidance is given in the Safety Data Sheet, issued on request. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
