Arcmetal 2K 560 Two-Component Epoxy Finish

An amine cured, high-build epoxy finish applied at 80 to 120 microns dry in one pass, for chemical splash, solvent contact, wash-down and mechanical abuse. It serves as a one-coat interior finish on plant fabrication and as the build coat under Arcmetal 2K 430 on exterior work.

1. Product description

An amine cured, high-build epoxy finish applied at 80 to 120 microns dry in one pass, for chemical splash, solvent contact, wash-down and mechanical abuse. It is used as a one-coat interior finish on plant fabrication, tanks, frames and machine bases, and as the build coat under 2K 430 where the part is also exposed outdoors. Epoxies chalk under ultraviolet light as a class, so it is not specified as the final coat on exterior work, and a fully cured film is washed to remove amine blush and then abraded before it will accept the next coat.

2. Features

  • 80 to 120 microns dry in a single pass
  • Resists chemical splash, solvent contact and wash-down
  • One-coat interior finish, or build coat under Arcmetal 2K 430
  • Hard dry overnight and full chemical cure in 7 days at 30 degrees C
  • Direct to blast cleaned steel or over Arcmetal PR 340

3. Recommended uses

Interior plant fabrication, tanks, frames and machine bases exposed to chemical splash, solvents, wash-down or mechanical abuse. On exterior work it is overcoated with Arcmetal 2K 430, because epoxies chalk under ultraviolet light.

Substrates. Bare steel blast cleaned to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2 and a half for best performance, power tool cleaned steel to St 3 with reduced life, and Arcmetal PR 340 primed steel within the stated recoat window.

Drying and cure, air dry at 30 degrees CHard dry overnight, 12 to 24 hours; allow at least 7 days for full chemical cure, longer below 30 degrees CISO 9117-1 for through drying
AdhesionCross-cut classification 0 to 1 on correctly prepared substrateISO 2409 cross-cut; ISO 4624 pull-off where a numerical value is required

Typical values, not a specification. Values for each batch are given on its Certificate of Analysis.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
MixingStir the base, add the hardener at the ratio stated on the labels, mix fully and allow the 10 to 30 minute induction period. Mix only what the session will use.
Application methodAirless or air-assisted airless spray; thin only with the thinner recommended by Arctic for the grade, and only as needed for atomisation.
Surface preparationDegrease, then blast clean to ISO 8501-1 Sa 2 and a half for full performance; power tool cleaning to St 3 gives a reduced life. Alternatively apply over Arcmetal PR 340 within its recoat window.
Application conditionsSubstrate at least 3 degrees C above the dew point, since cool, humid conditions produce amine blush on the curing film. Cure slows sharply below 15 degrees C and effectively stops below 10 degrees C.
Film build80 to 120 microns dry in one pass; check wet film with a comb gauge to ISO 2808 during application.
Drying and cureAir dry at 30 degrees C: hard dry overnight, full chemical cure in 7 days.
OvercoatingOvercoat with Arcmetal 2K 430 within the stated recoat window. A fully cured film is washed to remove amine blush and abraded before it accepts the next coat; overcoating a partly cured film outside the window is a common cause of intercoat failure.

Process. Airless or air-assisted airless spray after mixing and an induction period; substrate at least 3 degrees C above dew point, since cool humid conditions produce amine blush on the curing film; air dry, hard dry overnight, full chemical cure in 7 days at 30 degrees C. Cure slows sharply below 15 degrees C and effectively stops below 10 degrees C.

6. Storage and handling

Store base and hardener in their original containers, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, covered store away from heat and direct sun; reclose the hardener immediately after use, because amine hardeners take up moisture and carbon dioxide from the air, which leads to blush on the applied film. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
