Arcmetal 2K 430 Two-Component Polyurethane Finish

An aliphatic isocyanate cured acrylic polyurethane topcoat applied at 40 to 60 microns dry over an Arcmetal PR primer, for fabricated metal going into full exterior service. It holds gloss and colour under ultraviolet exposure longer than the alkyd grades and resists wash-down, fuels and dilute chemicals.

1. Product description

An aliphatic isocyanate cured acrylic polyurethane topcoat for fabricated metal that leaves the shop into full exterior service, applied at 40 to 60 microns dry over an Arcmetal PR primer. It holds gloss and colour under ultraviolet exposure longer than the alkyd grades and resists wash-down, fuels and dilute chemicals. Pot life runs from the moment the components are mixed, whether the gun is working or not, so batch sizes are set by the session and not by the tin.

2. Features

  • Aliphatic acrylic polyurethane for exterior gloss and colour retention
  • Resists wash-down, fuels and dilute chemicals
  • Tack free in 2 to 4 hours and full chemical cure in 5 to 7 days at 30 degrees C
  • Force dries in 40 minutes at 70 degrees C after flash-off
  • Overcoats cured Arcmetal 2K 560 epoxy within its overcoating window

3. Recommended uses

Topcoat for fabricated metal in full exterior or wash-down service, over Arcmetal PR 340 or PR 210, and over Arcmetal 2K 560 where a high-build epoxy layer is used beneath it.

Substrates. Arcmetal PR 340 and PR 210 primed steel, PR 210 primed zinc coated steel and aluminium, and cured epoxy such as Arcmetal 2K 560 within its overcoating window.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
MixingStir the base, add the hardener at the ratio stated on the labels, mix fully and allow the 10 to 30 minute induction period. Mix only what the session will use, because pot life runs from mixing whether the gun is working or not.
Application methodConventional, HVLP or air-assisted airless spray.
SubstrateSteel primed with Arcmetal PR 340 or PR 210, zinc coated steel and aluminium primed with PR 210, or cured Arcmetal 2K 560 epoxy within its overcoating window. Apply with the substrate at least 3 degrees C above the dew point.
ThinningAfter mixing, thin with the thinner recommended by Arctic for the grade to 20 to 25 s in a 4 mm flow cup at 23 degrees C (ISO 2431) for conventional and HVLP spray.
Film build40 to 60 microns dry per coat; check wet film with a comb gauge to ISO 2808 during application.
Drying and cureAir dry at 30 degrees C: tack free in 2 to 4 hours, hard dry in 16 to 24 hours, full chemical cure in 5 to 7 days. Force dry: flash-off at shop temperature, then 40 minutes at 70 degrees C.
Return to serviceHold back from wash-down, fuel or chemical contact until full chemical cure.

Process. Conventional, HVLP or air-assisted airless spray after mixing to the stated ratio and observing the induction period; air dry, tack free in 2 to 4 hours, hard dry in 16 to 24 hours, full chemical cure in 5 to 7 days at 30 degrees C, or force dry 40 minutes at 70 degrees C after flash-off.

6. Storage and handling

Store base and hardener in their original containers, tightly closed, in a cool, dry, covered store away from heat and direct sun; reclose the hardener immediately after use because it reacts with moisture. Shelf life is stated on the label and Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

This Technical Data Sheet is published for on-screen reference. The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
