Arcseam DR 450 Pail and Drum End Sealing Compound

A high-deposit, water-based elastomer sealing compound for pail and drum ends that are lined on large-diameter equipment and cured at ambient temperature. It builds a thick, coherent bead in one pass without cracking as the water leaves and reaches handling strength within a working shift.

1. Product description

A high-deposit compound for pail and drum ends that are lined and left to cure at ambient temperature, where oven drying a large end is impractical. It is formulated to build a thick, coherent bead in one pass without cracking as the water leaves, and to reach handling strength within a working shift so the ends can be stacked. It carries the highest dry deposit weight in the range, matched to the large curl volume and the heavier gauge of industrial ends.

2. Features

  • Ambient cure, for large ends where oven drying is impractical
  • Builds a thick, coherent bead in one pass without shrinkage cracking
  • Handling strength typically within one working shift, so ends can be stacked
  • Deposit weight at the top of the Arcseam range, matched to large curl volumes and heavy gauge

3. Recommended uses

Lacquered and unlacquered tinplate and steel pail and drum ends for industrial packaging, lined on nozzle or flow lining equipment and cured without an oven.

Substrates. Lacquered and unlacquered tinplate and steel pail and drum ends.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodNozzle or flow lining on large-diameter equipment, laying the full bead in one pass.
End preparationCurl clean, dry and free of forming oil, lubricant residue and loose dirt. Confirm adhesion on the lacquered or unlacquered end stock in use, and on unlacquered steel confirm that no flash rust forms under the bead during the ambient dry.
Preparation and dilutionSupplied ready for use and not thinned as a matter of routine. Stir slowly to redisperse any settlement, avoid high-shear stirring that aerates the compound, and agitate gently in the day tank so solids stay uniform across the shift.
Dry deposit weightAbout 300 to 1,500 mg per end, set to fill the measured curl void; check-weigh ends at intervals through the shift.
Cure scheduleAmbient cure with air movement around the ends. Handling strength is typically reached within one working shift; allow longer at low temperature or high humidity before stacking, and do not let lined ends freeze before the bead has dried.
Next stepStack once handling strength is reached and confirm there is no blocking or face-to-face transfer. Qualification is by seam teardown and leak testing on the customer's own line.

Process. Nozzle or flow lining on large-diameter equipment, ambient cure.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed containers at 5 to 35 degrees Celsius, protect from frost and keep out of direct sun; stir slowly before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.
