Arcseam BV 110 High-Speed Beverage End Sealing Compound

A low-deposit, water-based elastomer sealing compound for aluminium ends for two-piece beverage cans, lined on high-speed rotary nozzle equipment and dried in line with forced hot air. It is formulated for a clean nozzle cut-off, fast water release in a short oven dwell and high recovery after compression in the double seam.

1. Product description

A low-deposit water-based elastomer compound for aluminium ends for two-piece beverage cans, lined on high-speed rotary nozzle equipment. It is built for a short, clean cut-off at the nozzle and for fast water release, so that a thin, even bead dries within the short oven dwell a beverage end line allows. Among the Arcseam grades it carries the lowest deposit weight and the highest recovery after compression, because a carbonated pack loads the seam continuously, and on beer packs the seam is loaded again while warm during tunnel pasteurisation.

2. Features

  • Short, clean cut-off at the nozzle at high lining speed
  • Fast water release, so a thin bead dries within a short in-line dwell
  • Thin deposit, at the bottom of the Arcseam deposit weight range
  • Recovery after compression at the high end of the Arcseam range, for seams under continuous carbonation load
  • Holds the seal when reloaded warm during tunnel pasteurisation of beer packs

3. Recommended uses

Sealing internally lacquered aluminium easy-open ends for two-piece beverage cans filled with carbonated products, including beer packs that are tunnel pasteurised after seaming.

Substrates. Internally lacquered aluminium beverage end stock, shells formed and curled before lining and converted to easy-open ends after drying.

5. Application

ParameterGuidance
Application methodRotary nozzle lining at high speed: the shell spins on the chuck and the bead is injected into the curl in a single revolution, with cut-off timed so the bead closes without an overlap lump.
End preparationLine onto formed and curled shells of internally lacquered aluminium end stock with the lacquer fully cured. Confirm adhesion and clean release from the lining chuck on the lacquer in use.
Preparation and dilutionSupplied ready for use and not thinned as a matter of routine. Stir slowly to redisperse any settlement, avoid high-shear stirring that aerates the compound, and agitate gently in the day tank so solids stay uniform across the shift.
Dry deposit weightAbout 18 to 35 mg per end, set to fill the measured curl void; check-weigh ends at intervals through the shift.
Drying scheduleForced hot air in line, air 120 to 180 degrees Celsius, dwell under one minute. Set so the bead is coherent and tack free across the whole curl, without the surface skinning over trapped water, which blisters and leaves a soft core.
Nozzle careFlush nozzles and lines with water before the compound dries in them; a worn or partly blocked nozzle gives an uneven bead and stringing at cut-off.
Next stepConversion to easy-open ends after drying, then seaming at the filler. Qualification is by double-seam teardown and pack integrity after filling and, for beer packs, after tunnel pasteurisation, on the customer's own line.

Process. Rotary nozzle lining at high speed, forced hot air drying in line.

6. Storage and handling

Store in the original closed containers at 5 to 35 degrees Celsius, protect from frost and keep out of direct sun; stir slowly before use. Shelf life is stated on the label and the Certificate of Analysis. Handle and use the product in line with its Safety Data Sheet.

7. Safety and regulatory information

Read the Safety Data Sheet before use. Safety Data Sheets and regulatory declarations are issued by our technical centre against the product and batch supplied, so they are sent on request rather than published. Request a Safety Data Sheet or declaration.

The information is given in good faith from laboratory and application experience and describes typical values; it is not a specification and does not replace a trial on your own substrate and line.
